No I don't think so. They perform almost the same. The R8500 128MB takes the lead only in certain programs and then only by about 10% or less. Definitely not worth the extra $40 if you ask me, unless you have the money.

What's the deal with lampshades, I mean it's a lamp, why would you want a shade?

Oh $40 Canadian. Yeah, then it probably is. How much would you be paying for them? The 128MB will definitely help out in future games. More compex textures and so forth. It also helps out with AA and aniso to an extent. I just got a ATi R8500LE 128MB retail 2 days ago for $249. Works great so far, not to be disappointed. At least doubled my score in both 3D Mark2K1 SE and GLExess, although I'm running a P4 1.4GHz. I'll do some tweaking and try and get it even faster!!

Also have you looked at a GF4 Ti4200. They are a bit faster than the R8500, although they're a bit costlier too.

Didn’t I ask the same question? Except I was asking about the 8500le. Well I ordered the RADEON 8500 LE 128MB for $119 I’m not exactly sure why? I guess for 20 more bucks I better get the 128mb so won’t regret it and say “dam it was only 20 more dollars”.

Ill let u guys know how much it improves my frame rates when I get it in a few days.

Well I'd say go for it, unless you have other plans for the money. The extra RAM will help out in future games and also when using AA or aniso. Basically it allows you to do more complex stuff before having to run through your AGP to get more memory. 8.8GB/s for the card down to 2.1GB/s memory bandwidth for the AGP bus I believe.
