XP problems!!! I have no start menu or desktop icons.
Can't find explorer.exe from taskmanager. I tried to copy (c:\windows\explorer.exe) explorer.exe from other XP machine with no results(same version)I have scanned for viruses using f-prot(dated 5.1.2004). No viruses found.
I also run "SFC /SCANNOW" from a command prompt(replaces all of the protected system files) No results. Booting at Safe Mode won't work...

from the task manager goto file - new task (run..) type explorer.exe and see if that starts it up.

you can configure the icons to be back in the desktop in the display settings.

there's no problem about that because if you can load WINDOWS explorer "windows" it's ok.

hey, no body told you to format when you installing, kapish? install into the same partition, but call windows directory some thing else, "blah" for example.

Ok, I reinstalled Windows to same directory where the crappy one was (C:\WINDOWS). It worked! And all my progs and other stuff are there where they belong, in right places.

The BIG question here is, how to repair "disappeared" desktop without installing whole XP again? There have to be a simple answer for that. I suppose that i wasted more time to get desktop work again with all this "experimental, don't really know how" doings...

If you have the full copy of windows you could use the recovery console but you only use that to just get windows working enough to backup critical stuff before the conmplete reinstall of windows.
