  1. Radeon 8500LE. Faster a lot of the time, DX8 and the GF4 MX's just suck. They're just souped up GF2s. No pixel shaders, which are coming into use nowadays.

    BTW, that's a GF4 MX460, not a GF2 MX460...

  2. 8500. Much better performance for the price, and DX8.1 support so it will last longer.

Also, on general principal, I try to avoid at all costs from buying a GF4 MX card of any kind. It's a GF2 with a few GF4 upgrades, but no additional hardware support.

  3. What are you going to use the card for? I think the 460 has VIVO, but the 8500LE doesn't. If I needed to transfer movies from my VCR or Camcorder (not digital), I would go with the MX4 460.

  4. Another which will present itself this week is the radeon 9000 pro. Look out for it.
  5. You can get a vivo ti4200(which is much faster than the 8500 le) for around 140$, is that within your budget?

  6. agree with above, GF4 mx's just arn't worth getting.if u can get the 128mb version LE, then get that, it performs on par with retail radeon 8500 64mb.
  7. and just another note about the radeon 9000le/pro, it's suppose to be an upgraded version of radeon 7500, from
http://www.pcpop.com.cn/view.asp?type=news&id=7461, it seems that the pro version will have 300 core/600 DDR, but even with such high configuration, it only manage to pull 5372 on a xp2.1+, if thoese results were real, which i doubt that is the case, it can't beat the GF4 mx440s, the R300 (Radeon 9700), on the other hand can pull 15000+ on a P4 2.4.
  8. I agree. If I was going to get a VIVO card, I would spend the extra 20 bucks (460 vs 4200); however, I was pointing out a major difference between the MX4 460 and 8500LE.

  9. Not all GF4 cards are VIVO either.

  10. However, the 9000 I believe is DX8.1 compatable, unlike the GF4 MX.

  11. I haven't seen any VIVO Ti4200s for $140US either but you can get a regular Ti4200 for even less here in Canada.

  12. If I had to choose

    (CDN) MSI GeForce4 MX-460 64MB DDR $188.00

(CDN) ATI Radeon 8500LE 128MB DDR $174.99 (BBA)

I would take the Radeon, you can always flash it with a Retail bios 275/275 all 128MB Le's come with 3.6ns BGA memory!

At Retail speed is will be much faster than the MX460.

Where did you find the Radeon 8500LE 128MB for $174? Also, you still can get the thing to overclock higher than that without a retail BIOS. And some come with 3.3ns RAM.

  14. I'm aware that some of them come with 3.3ns memory but they are hard to find. And I know you can go higher than retail
I've had my LE running 300/300 and it runs fine. But until I get Ram sinks I prefer to keep it running 275/275! I know radeon don't run to hot and the BGA memory can handle the extra speed but better to be safe than sorry!

O and if you live in mississauga or Markham, Ontario
    http://www.logiccomputerhouse.com/
sells Radeon for that price, very good store actually.
