Weird stuff. I have D2 LOD installed on three computers at home, all
using the same router for Internet connection. All three were
connecting fine. I started running into some oddness on one machine
and decided to reinstall. Since reinstallation, I can't get through to
BNet. It hangs on the "Checking Versions" message. I have downloaded
and applied the version 1.10 patch, so that's not the issue. No
hardware or software changes to the system, which is a 1.0 gHz P4, 1G
RAM, ATI 9600. I've no clues as to what's the problem; the other two
systems work fine.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I don't see how it can be a faulty cable; two of three systems are
connected from the same router. And there's no firewall installed.

Was the flakieness that prompted the reinstall disk related? Could be that
you reinstalled on a bad part of the hard drive and some files got farkled.

Try a scandisk surface scan (not called that under xp, there it is error
checking when you right click on drive). If that passes, then try an
uninstall/reinstall cycle with a defrag inbetween so that the files end up
in a different spot.

If the other two systems work fine it is something local to the third
machine.

Ah, Information. A property, too valuable these days, to give it away,
just so, at no cost.
