8500 will have to cut prices, for many people will think the 9000 is actually an upper version than 8500. so ATI will have to price 8500, and 9000 equally, giving it less profit with 8500 but more profit with 9000.

and the 9700 will form the performance mainstream, of coarse. i just hope that 7500 gets a lot cheaper by the compitition of 8500/9000. that`s my call to buy an ATI! lol.

The 9000 Pro doesn't perform as well as the 8500, having only one texture processor per pipeline compared to the 8500's two. (see the review here at THG, and also at Anandtech.com and HardOCP.com). The 9000 has much slower memory and will have even lower performance than the PRO.

I think even the 8500LE's (the ATI made ones) will outperform the 9000 series (but this my personal speculation).

This whole arguement doesn't matter, since ATI is discontinuing the 8500. The 9000 and 9000Pro is REPLACING the 8500. I'm not sure how this affects their AIW line, as the AIW 9000 isn't due out until November at the earliest.

No, I don't think so. R8500 will be around til at least R9500. The R9500 is aimed at the market R8500 is aimed at right now, the middle-end to high-end user. The R9000 series is for the mainstream/low-end user. R8500 will be around til R9500 comes out to replace it Q4 this year.
