I just installed the PNY Verto Ti4600 128MB video card ser.# 91003546 RV. A into my system. I must say I am very disappointed. I expected a big boost which I didn't get. I am including Multimedia99 tests with the Ti4600 card and the 440MMX card, as well as directx diagnostics. All testing was done on the same system. Is there a reason I am not getting better results? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick Guindon

dude if you could benchmark your computer using the standard tests that most people use it would be very helpfull in diagnosing a problem, if in fact there is a problem. As far as I know, the 2 best and most often used tests are 3d mark 2001 se and pcmark 2002. they are both avaible at 3dguru.com I believe... get those and they will give you a good idea of how your system stacks up against the rest... particularly that 3d mark 2001se is a great benchmark for your video card.

If the katmai is a p3( i cant remember) and your hdd is reasonably fast and unfragmented, and you have a good amount of fast ram(say 128 or more MB of DDR ram) a geforce 4 ti4600 even at stock clock speed should nab you somewhere between 8 and 10000 3dmarks. If you had a faster proc this number would easily be over 10000 but p3's are a bit slow to feed the geforce 4's with all the vertex data it can handle. hope this helps :)

A better video card won't improve the performance of your whole system, it will only improve 3D rendering speed. For testing that, I recomend 3D-Mark 2001SE.

I am running an Athlon xp 1800+ with 512MB of 133mhz ram. I ran 3DMark 2001 SE and my highest score without AA was 5736. Does that seem low?

Normally I would have said "yes", but I'm seeing a lot of review sites post lesser scores with the same card. There is room for improvement through optomization though.

I hate to say it, but that system should be getting over 10 K on 3d mark 2001se. I have the same cpu, less ram and a 64 MB ti4200 overclocked to 293/573 and I get 9000 3dmarks.

there is something wrong if you are getting low scores like that, but there could be so many things wrong its hard to say what. conflicts, old drivers, fragmented hard drive, bad bios settings etc.

No, heh, i hate to say this, but EVERYONE here is wrong at the moment.

1) He's using SDRAM at 133Mhz, you've lost your performance boost right there. An Athlon XP WILL NOT fullfil its potential on 133Mhz SDRAM. You need a new motherboard with DDR-333 RAM.

2) MPEG encoding and audio tests are 100% cpu and sound card dependent, not graphics dependent, they don't use Direct 3D or openGL in the slightest so your graphics card would have no bearing on those tests, you could use an old TNT2 card and get the same or better scores.

3) Your score for 3dmark2001SE is dead on once again because you have RAM thats holding you back. 3DMark2001 SE is equally processor and graphics card intensive test. If your RAM is slow like that it will hold you up. Your FSB and RAM just isnt up to the task.

4) Recommendation: motherboard and RAM upgrade, get a nice Asus A7V333 with some PC2700 DDR RAM and your 3D Mark 2001SE score will go to about 10,000 3dmarks (at least). I have no idea how much your mpeg test scores will go up, but up they will go, significantly i bet.

This doesnt look promising either:

huh? I don't have an Athlon myself but...that strikes me as utterly strange. Upgrade your bios and reinstall your motherboard and chipset drivers.
