I saw a strange version of Diablo2
There was 2 imp (red and blue) instead of energy and mana globe
Some egg (the ones with surprise who can be fond at supermarket) was in
the inventory....with the horadric they changed into objects
Someone know this version? Is an official version? It's free and could
be downloaded somewhere?
Thanks to everyone

It's definitely *not* an official version, sounds like a mod but I
have no idea which one.

I recall people talking about it on the newgroups a couple of months ago. I
think it originates in Germany, and the eggs are named after some eggs with
collectable toys inside. A search on google of this group or agd should have
it.

Sounds kinda like Chaos Empire mod. At least it had eggs.

Click on the banner running down the left side and more info becomes
available. However, looking at all of the patches and extra files and
stuff on the download page, it looks like an *awful* lot of work just
to play one mod. Has anyone tried this one? Is it worth it?

It's fun for a while, but it gets completely ridiculous in short order, as
does just about every mod I've ever tried. I found it almost impossible to
play single player even before getting all the way through the jail in Act
1. The monsters become ridiculously tough, plus there are loads of
"gotchas", such as Diablo's Butcher and King Leoric who'll pop out and kill
you almost immediately. Some people might like that kind of BS, but I
don't.
I've never tried any mod that I ever thought was really "worth it", but
Chaos Empire at least is relatively painless to install and to revert back
to the original game whenever you want.

Well, you know me, I *never* play mods (yeah, right!) ;-) Fair enough,
just one other question: Which of the many files do you need to get
everything working right? From looking at the site, it looks like you
need the mod file (obviously), then the Special SP Character Item (use
only in the Bloodmoor?!?), but things like the Nude Assassin add-on,
Chaos Empire Repair Kit (??), AuraItem Crash Fix (?), are these
necessary? And does it make the game crash so much that it needs that
many fixes? Things like the BNut Gateway Editor I *don't* want, I'm
having enough BNut problems as it is, but the plug-in to increase the
stash, cube and inventory would be *real* nice, assuming I could
figure out how to use it.
Ok, so that's more than one question, so sue me (line forms to the
left) ;-)

All I got was the mod and it worked fine. The file I have is called
"d2mod749.exe" but I think that may be what I renamed it, I just don't
remember. It came with a Glide wrapper too. But I'm certain that I only
downloaded one file for that mod, and I never ran into any issues.
otoh, I had a similar experience to Chainbreaker's in that I got
bored/exasperated and forgot about the mod after a short time. Nothin'
like the real thing, man. So I didn't really give the mod time to reveal
any glaring issues. Also, I never played it on any realm. (It configures
itself automatically to give you access to several new realms; when I see
that list upon changing realms today it's the only reminder that I have
the mod installed.)
I do remember that it was great looking and made me envious of the HUGE
stash. A lotta work went into the thing. :-)

Heh, you've obviously not played Ancestral Recall (where "players 1"
is roughly equivalent to "players 5" in LoD) at "players 8" ;-) I
doubt I'd get that frustrated. There's apparently a 7.50 out now,
maybe it's Realms configuration would solve my BNut problems (hey, I
*know* it's highly unlikely, but I'm getting desperate). Ok, I have
the site bookmarked, looks like I need to look into it some more.

That's actually pretty standard in mods, apparently due to the plug-in
that's also on the site, which is one of the main reasons I play them
(can't *stand* the super-small stash and cube of the regular game, my
Necro just got his cube and managed to clear *some* room in his stash
and inventory, but the Slayer Bowazon is so full that she's only got
about 8 squares clear to pick up stuff, and I still pick up and carry
back *every* blue or above that drops). But you've answered one of my
main concerns, it sounds like they already have that implemented so I
*don't* have to figure out how to get the plug-in working. Thanks! :-)

Replying to myself, but I definitely stand/sit corrected. While a
larger stash *is* pretty standard, it isn't usually that large. I

Heh, there is that.
A stash so large as to be almost unmanageable--a D2 player's nirvana for
sure. :-)
Sort of a PITA to get to though, but I suppose a stash that large should be
worth *some* trouble attaining.

Oh, silly me . . . I thought the nude assassin was *required*.
Anyway, the game works fine with or without those "extras", and BTW, that's
a great Glide wrapper, too, if you have the videocard to push it. Every
other wrapper I've tried with D2 had at least some issues--eventual
stuttering, etc., but that one uttered nary a peep. I even continued to use
it for the "normal" D2 game after I gave up on the mod.
Speaking of which, I actually logged on and renewed my characters all of a
week before they were due to expire. What that means I'm not sure, but I
did it just after logging off WoW with a log full of elite quests and being
unable to raise a group to make a dent in any of them.

Ok, that should be enough. How is it a pain? Is it always in the
Graveyard, which has the shortcut to it, and you just have to kill
BloodRaven? The reason I'm asking is because my second character, a
Druid, found it there, but my first, a Bowazon (of course) didn't, and
I'd *thought* that I'd cleared the whole area. Of course, it *was*
somewhere between 4 and 6 a.m., and I might have missed it ;-)

Ack, you're asking me to remember back a long way. Well, <ahem> since I
thought I *had* to use the nude assassin mod, my only character was an assy.
And the stash was always in the the Graveyard. It's just a pain because
every time you start you have the respawns--ok, it's not *that* big of a
pain, but still . . . And of course, it was mostly a bit of trouble just
because the game made me wonder "now where in the hell is my stash?" :-)
And as far as not having any trouble getting out of normal--hah! I
*thought* my years of HC exp would help me. Granted, I got *to* Andy, but I
didn't ever get *past* Andy. I suppose I could have, but these literal
interpretations of the old Bard's Tale deal where "you open the Catacomb
door", "you are attacked by 999 skeletons" just doesn't take that long to
get old with me For some strange reason it seems like every single mod out
there has to do this.
Even so, I played this mod a lot more than any other . . . come to think of
it, I don't ever remember playing any other one long enough to even get to
the Countess, lol.

Yeah, my Bowazon was *still* wondering that after her first game. Fair
enough, hopefully she just missed it ;-)

Oh, cool, so there's a real challenge waiting for me there, huh?
Should I be buffing up by playing at players 20 (and do you have to
type players 20 or players 8? If you know, that is)? As far as every
single mod doing this, try Ancestral Recall, the hard part in Act 1 is
well before (or after, if you're smart, or after at *least* Act 2, if
you're smarter) Andy.

I *think* I can safely say that I've played every mod that I *have*
played further than that, other than Nez and this one, both of which
I've just started, I think I've played them all all the way through
(well, except for the *second* V&K D2 mod, that one I got discouraged
that I couldn't bring in my old V&K characters and quit right away).
No, wait, I only got to about Act 2 or 3 of Normal in Gemstone, but
I've recently started that one up again. But then again, I really
haven't played that many mods, 'cause when I get hooked on one (like
AR, or V&K for Hellfire) I tend to play it to death ;-)

Okay, you guys talked me into it.
I d/l and installed the CE mod and am currently playing it but I have some
questions about it.
First, should I be posting questions here or on the CE site forum (I don't
speak / read german)?
Second, what are the mysterious scrolls? I right clicked on one and it
disappeared but nothing else seemed to happen.
I figured out that the oils are for cubing with your equipment, but what do
the dolls do? The Gheed doll seems to up the gold dropped by monsters but I
am not positive since I also added other gold enhancing equip as well. Are
we sure that the stash will always be in the graveyard? At the beginning of
the game, when you read the Book of Revelations it mentions something about
washing the evil off with a Horadric Scroll??? Maybe it must be done in
Tristam where you also see your stash, but it looks like a camel or
something is draped over it?
Is there a website or something that has these and other noob questions
answered? (I did look at the CE site, but it seemed to only have what is in
the readme html file. Plus, at the website it tells some wrong info, for
example, it says 3 upper and 3 lower shells to make one egg, when it
actually only takes one of each.
Heh, catacombs level 4 is almost insane - gold chests everywhere - too much
stuff!!!
So far, I have installed it twice, the first time, it let me play, then I
'deactivated' it and played regular LOD for awhile and when I went back to
'activate' the mod again it just hangs when I try to load the game itself
and I have to reboot. So this time I have the darn thing paused while I am
away at work / sleep / etc.. I am currently almost to Andy, so I will let
you know if she kills me or not. I have died once so far, the dang Butcher
was in the Jail level 2 and I stupidly opened the door for him and he made
very short work of my skellies, merc, and finally one hit to me. After
saving / reloading so I didn't have to fight him for my corpse, the map was
much nicer (yes, even SP respawns the maps every time you start a game) and
I didn't see him at all on my way down.
Heh, that stash sure is something tho, ain't it? I have 4 'pages' filled
already, one with a whole lot of runes (which you can gamble! - only 500,000
gold) and a bunch of set and uniques as well as several 'toys' that I don't
know what to do with - anybody want a catapult?
Plus, sell one 'valuable elixir' and you get like 400+ million gold, sure
buys a lot of runes or anything else.

They were for some feature that's either been otherwise implemented or
removed, I forget which. AFAIK they don't do anything and aren't for
anything.

Those dolls are used in something akin to runeword formulas I think,
although I never played long enough to use any that way.
I found some forums or something somewhere in English that talks about a lot
of this stuff but I've evidently lost my bookmarks. But you should be able
to find them if you search a bit.

I don't see any problems with posting them here, but as we seem to
have a mixture of people who played it long ago and those that are
just starting out, you may not get all of the answers you want. Wasn't
there also a PhrozenKeep forum? If there was (I seem to remember
seeing it *some*where, but it's definitely not listed on the site,
that may be what I get for doing all of my research/playing in the
early morning hours ;-) ) that may be the best place to find answers
in English. Ah, here we go:

Same thing happened to my Bowazon, I think.

Cubing with them? Ok, in Hellfire it was just click and apply
(right-click, IIRC), but I haven't found any yet, so thanks for the
info ;-)
>but what do

I'm not sure, as I only have the Qual Khek (sp!) one, and that with
the Bowazon who hasn't found her stash yet, so it's in her cube, IIRC.
There's supposed to be a doll bag somewhere, though, and the part of
the readme that talked about it said something about if you get the
faded look, the doll bag was full and more wouldn't have any effect,
so there must be *some* effect from them.

I'm becoming convinced, I'll be pretty positive if the Bowazon finds
it there in her next game ;-)

Interesting, I must have missed that. The readme has it right, though.
You have to remember, though, that the site's author's English isn't
that good ;-)

Hopefully this was just a bad download the first time, I haven't had
*any* problems like that so far, and yeah, I *have* de- and

Yeah, the stash has to be the best feature ;-) It appears, from what
got added to my D2 folder, that it's part of the plugy package that's
available for Nez as well, but I haven't been able to get it to work
with that mod.
BTW, you're only playing the one character, right? 'Cause while doing
a quick browse through the forum I posted above there was some
reference to the stash being shared, which I'm curious about.

Heh, make sure you sell certain potions (strangling gas, fulminating, etc.)
to Gheed and not Charsi, Charsi has a max limit on how much she will pay you
where Gheed pays 'full' price, same for any other item over the limit.
btw, actually I have created two characters already, although I haven't gone
back to my assasin after creating my skellimancer, the skelly man has put
most stuff he found into the 'shared' stash with only a few items going into
his 'personal' stash, so if / when I go back to my assy she will have access
to some pretty nice stuff.
I did find the PhrozenKeep forum (even before I saw it mentioned here) and
it is helping already.
If / when you do find a 'valuable elixir' (I got two so far, both from eggs,
heh, also got a zod from an egg, wait until you see what all the mods on it
are), make sure you wait to sell it until you are able to hold at least
500,000 gold to be able to buy/gamble runes.
Oils - put oil and item in cube and transmute - for example - oil of
sharpness adds 1 to max damage to your weapon (more than once! I have
already used three on my dagger), most are pretty intuitive as to which type
of item you should use them on.

Ok, thanks, I didn't know that. Does Akara have the limit also? I
always seem to sell stuff to her, I get into the habit before I rescue
Cain so that I can buy ID scrolls (well, *normally*, anyway).

Ok, I'm confused (or more so than usual). Are there two different
stashes, or is part of the one shared?

Yeah, I'm still reading through it, in between games and downloads of

Ok, another question: How do you get things from eggs? Is this only
the ones you make from the lower and upper shells (I haven't found an
upper shell yet)? I've gotten about 16 of the Kinder Surprise Eggs and
can't seem to do anything with them (tried cubing, right and left
clicking, etc.).

There is a little box in the bottom left corner of the stash (when open)
that toggles between 'personal' and 'shared'.

Put a single egg in the cube and hit transmute - it should turn into a
random item, anything from a doll / toy to a potion to a rune to a ???.
Heh, yea, I got about 12 extra lower egg shells sitting waiting for more
uppers.
Don't forget the 6 egg = one doll, 10 eggs = 2 dolls, 12 eggs = 3 dolls
recipe also, if you specifically want a doll or three to play with (lol,
playing with dolls we are). The readme did say something about every 7th
egg being special, I think that it gives you better items (except/elite) or
a doll / toy instead of just a random thing.

Ah, ok, I didn't notice that. Does that mean the stash actually has
2000 pages?

Again, is this just the ones that you make? It didn't work for me with
the kinder surprise eggs, and I'm *pretty* sure I'd IDed the one I was
trying with.

Only 12? ;-) *Each* of my characters seems to have that many already,
and I've yet to see a single upper.

Oh, believe me, I haven't forgotten that recipe, especially since I
can't seem to do anything else with them. The Bowazon (who couldn't
find the stash) *had* to use the 6 eggs recipe, she was pretty much
out of room in the cube. The Druid has 10 of them saved up, waiting
for two more (or two upper shells).

I think I tried it the first time with 6 eggs in my inventory and the 7th in
the cube (thinking confusedly re: seventh), after that they all work for me
whether they are id'ed or not, if they turn into a charm or something like
that then I have to id it, otherwise I figure that there is no reason to
waste a scroll.
I do / did find quite a few 'uppers', but definitely more 'lowers', am up to
about 18 in my stash.
I am not sure if I will be playing much more of this mod tho, even without
'deactivating' and reactivating, it hangs my machine when I try to open the
game. When I hit ctrl-alt-del it show the game and Msgsrv32 as both not
responding, I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that that
machine is not hooked to the net in any way anymore, or if it is because it
is an older machine with Win98 and only 64meg ram. So, the only way I will
be playing it again is to uninstall and reinstall _again_. I am having fun
with it, so I will probably give it at least one or two more tries.
Does anyone have a list of 'switches' somewhere? The shortcut that the mod
makes has '-direct' after the same line as the original LOD shortcut, I
wonder what that does, and whether some other switch may help keep my
machine from hanging.
btw, I did get to and past Andy last night, she was about the normal amount
of difficulty to kill, no more, no less. Just watch out for that Butcher
dude somewhere in the jail or catacombs levels, if you hear someone say
"Fresh Meat" *don't* open that door until after you kill Baal.
Regarding the stash - 2000 pages? Heck, I don't know, I barely have 5 1/2
pages filled so far in my shared and only 1 1/2 in my personal, I don't keep
a lot of junk and don't even pick up blue items unless it is a type I am
really looking for. (or just to pick up and drop over in the corner so I
make sure I don't miss anything, so much stuff drops that some of it isn't
even listed when you hit the alt key since it is buried under all the other
stuff or just because there is not enough room on the screen to list
everything)
Heh, got my first herb (and second, one from a drop and one from an egg)
last night, it is another like the valuable elixir where it sells for just
under 500 million gold, so I am holding them for when I want to gamble for
another couple hours some night. I think that the only one that buys at
'full' price is whoever has the gambling in each town.

next up in the rotation, I'll try again. Agreed about the scrolls,
they are *far* too rare ATM.

64 megs? That might be your problem right there. I tried the original
game with either that much or half of it, 5 minutes to run out of town
(only a *slight* exaggeration) was too much for me, fortunately
someone had a 256 meg stick they weren't using and sent it to me. The
regular game and too many mods ran fine after that, and that was on an
old machine (originally 24 megs, I remember that) running Win95
(upgraded to 98 this summer, to get it online with DSL), so that part
shouldn't be your problem.

I've only seen the '-direct' with txt after it, but that's basically
one way to call the mod instead of the original game. You might try
adding a -w after it, that makes it run in a window, and I've heard of
it helping in some situations. There are others you can use, the ones
I know of being '-actx', where x = 1 through 5 where, if you start a
new character, they start at a *much* higher level (I think the readme
said act5 is level 94 in CE, it's usually 33 or 34), with all stat and
skill points for that level available, but no waypoints or quests
enabled. Basically you have to go back to Act 1 because of lack of
equipment, and in most situations it makes the game play much too
boring for me, although my sons seem to enjoy it.

Heh, I saw that next page arrow and *had* to figure out how many there
were, I'll check the shared stash next game (probably tonight) ;-)
Even after playing the game for too many years, I still like to ID
everything blue or above, just to see what's possible, especially in
mods where there might be something new. Bad habit, I know, since it
means a *lot* more trips to town, but that's how I play, at least in
SP.

Ok, thanks for the tip. You don't want to actually *use* things like

Oops, my bad - I actually have 128meg and 64meg video card.
I think my problem may be hardware related - when I first loaded D2 4 years
ago I seem to remember having this same problem and had to get some kind of
workaround from Blizzard support. Of course I have no idea now what we did
then to get it working. Too many of those 'herb' thingies, heh, speaking of
which...

Well, the readme says that both effects are for a limited time, so, in my
book they are not worth 'using' - herb says run like crazy - valuable elixir
says hp, mana and life bonus, neither are all that useful to a skellimancer
that just hangs back and lets his minions do all the work anyway.
Oh, and don't worry about scrolls that much, when you get to Andariel's
level of the catacombs you will see that it is _much_ bigger than normal and
there are bookcases and chests and cots all over the place - I now have a
half dozen each tomes in my shared stash.

Yes, those little guys are real buggers, they were the only things (besides
that darn Butcher) that killed my clay golem and several of my skellies
quite a few times, but once I got a couple points into resist all it helped
quite a bit, otherwise I would imagine some extra fire resistance would be
very handy.
btw, Cain _says_ he will ID stuff for free, but there is a 100 gold charge
per item just like back in D1, although by that time money should not matter
very much.

Speaking of which, ...
When, oh when, am I going to learn to listen to people (although when
exactly can you hold 500 million in gold?)? I made the mistake early
this morning of selling the Valuable Elixir that I got out of an egg,
4 hours later I had to put the game on hold, and I still have
something like 490 million to try to gamble with.

Hehe, yep, that is exactly what happened to me too. I would go and do a
little adventuring, come back, pick up as much as I could hold, gamble, pick
up more gold, gamble, repeat several times until I used up 10-20 million,
then go adventuring for awhile again and come back and do it some more. It
doesn't help matters much that some times you can _make_ money gambling,
depending on your level and what you are buying/selling.

True. True. With all the drops, it's not hard to collect gold. And,
if that were a problem, there's a lot to sell. So, gold should never be
a problem.
As for those "buggers" as you so eloquently put it, I'll have to find
some fire resistence before I go back there. Meanwhile, I'm leveling up
anyway. One way or another I'll beat it. Oh, and btw, I also started a
necro, but they beat him too. They love to kill skellies and golems. I
found that out very quickly.

I take it you have no "real life" experience spending like that? Come,
come now, surely you can figure out some way to spend down that gold,
lol.

How is it I haven't figured out how to "gamble"? When I go to Gheeds, I
just give him elixers and, I think he pays me, or he appears to. I
found that when I hit "gamble", there's only unID'd stuff in there. Why
would I want that?

Because it will be _at least_ a blue (magical) item, with some pretty good
chances of it being a yellow (rare), green (set), or gold (unique) item.
If / when you buy an item, it will appear in your inventory ID'd, you do not
have to use a scroll.

Yeah, I was afraid of that, and thus am avoiding the stuff that could
possibly make me money, which wouldn't do either of my characters (a
Bowazon and a Druid) any good anyway. So the gold won't disappear if I
leave it for more than 5 minutes? It might be nice to take a break and
actually *play* the game ;-)

Heh. That's why it's gambling -- you don't know what you're getting until
you buy it. You'll always get at least a magic item, occasionally a rare,
and rarely (almost never in regular 1.10, but more frequently in some mods)
a set or unique. At higher levels, you can also get exceptional and elite
items instead of normal.

No, it will stay for at least 15 minutes or so, it _will_ disappear
eventually if you don't touch it, but every time you pick it up it 'resets'
the timer (as far as I can tell).

Uh, why would you want to do that? Need I remind you that you've got a
reputation around here of holding onto unfinished characters? If you
spend time playing the game, you might actually finish one one day.
Heavens. We can't have that!!!!!
