Has anyone ever tried putting a different fan and ram heatsinks on a geforce 2 gts-v? im planning on getting some and i wanna know if the card will overclock in an acceptable speed.

System:
AMD Athlon XP 1500+
ECS K7S5A mobo w/sound + lan
Crucial 256mb DDR266
Maxtor 40gb. 7200rpm

Yeah, I used a Pentium heatsink for the GPU and chopped up a small Socket 7 heatsink to make huge RAM heatsinks for my Visiontek Geforce2 5632 (GTS-V).

My results

Best stable overclock (stock cooling) = 205/340
Best stable overclock (mod'd cooling) = 205/340 (no difference)!

hmmm...is it worth buying a ram heatsink for $10? it seems that it isnt. i dont think 10mhz will make an actual difference in the performance. thanx for the info anyway.

Agreed, I'm still using my old VisionTek GF2 GTS :) I have it defaulted at 210/370 right now for my everyday use. I guess it's all in the luck of the draw. When I first got the card, I pushed it up to 220/390 for my 3DMark tests. Insane ;)

Yes, but that's a GTS with 200/333 default clocks. This is a GTS-V ("V" for value?) with 175/286 default clocks and 7ns memory compared to 6ns for the GTS.

My overclock of 205/340 was better than I expected. However, I was really disappointed because I could go as high has 218/410 without crashes (needed two case fans helping there) but the screen was full of snow, 20% at 200/400 and 40% at 210/418. Artifact Tester 5 never detected anything. All I can figure is the RAMDAC was faulty, not correctly displaying the frame.

The GTS-V only cost me 60 bucks in November which wasn't bad but I couldn't pass on a $99 Radeon 8500 OEM 5 months later. What a huge difference in quality and speed!

I cut my old Pentium coolers in two and glue them to the RAM with JB-weld. It usually gives me only 5MHz, but thats a good improvement for free.

$50 for a Geforce2 Ti? That's actually a good value for someone that plays DX7 games or won't miss pixel and vertex shaders. Also it's not too bad for someone who's limited to 1024x768 game play by their monitor. I think I'd prefer a Radeon 7500 in this price range. Still, time is running out for the usefulness these cards.

Nah, they are still powerfull enough to play most newer games at 1024x768, and games as recent as a year ago at 1600x1200.

That's what I said.

Depends on the amount of memory. 32MB isn't much when combined with large, detailed textures and 1600x1200 resolution. 64MB would have worked fine.

When were the Geforce2 Ti's introduced? It was the same time as the Geforce3 Ti's wasn't it? After the Geforce2 Ultra and after the original Geforce3. It wasn't that long ago.

GeForce2 TI was a replacement for the GeForce2 Pro I think, which makes it a little faster than a GTS. It was introduced with the rest of the "TI" cards.
