I am sure that this has been asked and probably answered before, but I
couldn't find it via Google Groups:

I know the order of rune placement is critical to a runeword formula, but is
the PHYSICAL placement in the item important? In other words, if I put in
El-Sol-Dol-Lo clockwise starting from the upper left (for Fortitude), will
it still work if I place them starting in the lower right? Or if I place
them (upper) left-right, (lower) left-right?

Thanks.

I think it doesn't matter what you do. For as far as I remember You just
have to put the runes over the weapon/schield/.. where you want it in in the
coorect order. I don't think you acctually had to place them in the richt
slot. If youre not sure, get a few low lvl runes, a socketed weapon and try
it out.

You can't add a rune/gem/jewel into a specific socket, the game will
place them always in the same order. This means it is very unimportant
how what rune goes into what socket, you just have to use the right
order when droping them into the item.

And remember: - You need a white (non magical, non rare, non unique/set)
item with the exact number of sockets and the right type.
Example:
RalOrtTal will not work in a four socket shield nor in a 3 socket helm.
It will not work in a shield having the Artisan's (== 3 sockets) affix.
It will only work in a white socketed shield when pushed into the shield
in the order Ral - Ort - Tal

Thanks everyone. I thought that was the case, and didn't have a spare set
of low-level runes/socketed items to test it out.
