How badly does overclocking reduce the life of graphics cards?
I would love to be able to buy a Ti 4600, but after going through my budget I think a 4400 will be the max that I can go. I've heard that you can get a 4400 to 4600 speeds quite easily without any additional cooling, but was wondering how long my card would last if I did such a thing? Anyone with some real-world experience in this matter?
If you push the 4400 to the 4600 level, you should at least add some heatsinks to the RAM on the back side of the card, I really don't know why they don't factory install them anyway, its kinda like the back of the card is an after thought. I don't think you'll find anywhere exactly how long things will last overclocking, it really depends on just how far you push the envelope.
Sounds like good advice to me, but if you haven't guessed I'm a bit of a newbie so have a couple of questions. Firstly how much do heatsinks cost, and can you get them from any computer shop. Secondly are they easy to put on?
Yes, they are cheap, probably ~$10 or less, depending on quality. They usually have a sticky thermal tape thing that allows you to stick them to you RAM chips like a sticker.
One thing I must say, is that they may not do too much for ya... It'll help a bit I'm sure, but..... Get a fan blowing on it too just to help out that little extra bit.
