I just built a Shuttle SN85G4(full config below) and I installed a SATA drive. After spending hours on a dial up connection searching Shuttle's website as they have no phone support and haven't returned my emails(3 days), I found this answer. The weblink is posted below. The explanation is somewhat lacking in detail, could someone explain to me what they are asking me to do and how I may accomplish it with the hardware resources I have.
The directions call for me to load the drivers via floppy disk.
The only floppy disk drive that I have connects via PMCIA card yet I have two different external CD drives that I can connect via parallel port. I could also connect my laptop which has a floppy drive via parallel port yet I am not sure that the SN85g4 will be able to figure out how to connect to the floppy disk on the laptop via the parallel port on the laptop? Will it?
In the instructions, they ask me to enable Drive A: Which external port will that activate? I assume the parallel and not the COM1 port. I have read the manual cover to cover and they do not address which external port corresponds to Drive: A or Drive B: how do I find this information out?
When activating drive A: it allows me four types of floppy disks to choose from:
360, 5.25
1.2, 5.25
1.44 3.5
2.88 3.5
There are no other choices that I can make. So may I connect an external CD drive to the parallel port and will it recogonize it and load the drivers from there? Or am I hosed and I need to go borrow/buy an external floppy drive with parallel connectors?
Also, in the directions on the website I listed, they instruct one to connect the floppy drive with the drivers yet they don't show you executing any commands. Does the OS automatically search the floppy drive and load the drives. Also, after making the changes to the BIOS am I supposed to reboot and then load the OS or do I exit the Bios and try to load from there? I would think that I need to reboot for the BIOS changes to take effect.
thanks for all the help...I have spent hours trying to find the answer on my own.
