ABIT BE6-II (440BX-based),
trying to make Gainward 700XP (Ti4400) work with it.
First concern was that Gainward Ti4400 is AGP 4x only
and BE6-II is AGP 2x. Should this work at all???
Well, nothing is burned to ground as I installed card.

BUT !
Having snow, coloured garbage over normal picture.
Seems like overheating or not enough power from 250W case.
Tried to cut power to other stuff - does not help.
Cooler is getting warm from the first seconds - don't know if it's OK for 4400.

Anyone had similar problems ?

4x AGP vid. card in your 2xAGP board should work fine, its just that the card will run at 2x and not 4x because ur mobo limits it. as for ur heatin problem, i dont know what u are talkin about.

I think he was sayin' that he installed it all and the house didn't go up in flames, so all seems well )

he he...
It's me again. Talked to Gainward techsuport, this time was guy with brains, said MB on 440BX should be OK, will work in AGP 2x mode. Well.

As for overheating, see no flames. Heatsink/cooler seems to get warm at once, but I really don't know how quick it should be warming up.

As for trashed response on the screen, last thing I am gonna try is go and by Antec True-Something 430 power supply (ah, will need it anyway). If card does not work, will send t back.

You have a great motherboard, your power supply is indeed the most likely culprit. And all current AGP4x cards are backwards compatable to AGP2x standards.

"Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles you".

OK, got new power supply (Evermax whisper 430W).
1) Evermax cannot be attached by screws to my old cheap case - different hole placement.
2) With new PCU videocard still merrily splahes coloured trash across the screen.
3) Case gives me slight electric shock - with both old and new power supplies.

The question: weren't it better with old GeForce 256 DDR ?!?!?!?!

Gainward 700XP: 259$
Evermax PSU: 85$
Ticket to computershow: 7$
Time and nerves: priceless.
