what is your thoughts on upgrading a gf2 mx400 32mb, to ti4200 128mb vivo to play gta3, RTCW, and hopefully new doom III on a celeron 1.1gig 128cache proc?
will the 3dmarks increase from my lowly 2500 to at least 8000?
thanks for reply

you should be able to play GTA3 with reasonable framrate with the Ti4200 after you've install the lag patch.. sound patch.. etc .but keep in mind, the 64mb card is currently faster then the 128mb version.

with your current comfiguration, i would say it's better if u upgrade to a radeon 8500 64mb retail. your cpu is the limiting factor here. and no, u can't hit 8000 on a celeron 1.1 even if u equip it with a radeon 9700. i would say the most u can get is probably about 5000-6000

well there u go. PIII 933 is probably a bit faster then the celeron... and he's getting 6500. so you'll be looking at around 6000, but of coz there also other factors such as ram and driver setting which will affect your score.

More like 5500, the PIII 933 is quite a bit faster than the Celeron 1.1

I suggest you hold out a bit for a month or two. Prices will go down for current cards, and you might be able to trade-in your celeron system for a new AMD AthlonXP setup, cheap and fast, would unlock the high scores you expect and allow the cards to flex their performance. You might easily be able to afford this new card+CPU setup if you wait a bit. Otherwise you can do it now, but search well for the right price. I hear there are 56$ AthlonXP 1.4GHZ 1600+ CPUs, and since mobos are so cheap now, you can easily trade-in and save even more.
