I take it this is a list of peolpe you want to ignore, just dont go into the other section, and now that the post count has been deleted from peoples stats, you will see less bs posts

Spud and Nomorelamers still have some work to do to get on that list, and cyber doesn't belong there at all yet. Cyber was getting thoroughly attacked for his opinion last night and struck back when they attacked his business...

Takes more than one or two bad days to make the list....

I have to agree about cyber, I think he's got some really useful input and generally knows what he is talking about, as for the rest on the list, i haven't been on THG long enough to have a valid opinion, but from what i have seen, even if i did - someone out there would disrespect it!

You shouldn't slander cultures that you obviously know nothing about. Do you know anything about Russia? Could you find it on a map? Whether you and I get along or not is absolutely irrelevent.

What matters is whether or not this forum is swamped with 3000 posts with no information from a 14 year old boy.

I like this forum, but it needs an ignore function. That way you could ignore me and I could ignore Wusy.

Maybe I just have more respect for culture than I do wusy. You have guts to come onto a message board that is shared by people from all over the world and say something that stupid. I might be a little rough on Wusy....big deal...

Somehow I doubt you know anything about Russia...maybe about computers, but not Russia...

I don't have anything against Wusy, I just wish there was an ignore option. Is it a crime to find 3000 posts annoying. He's not the only one...an ignore function would be awesome. Even you must think so...

Either way I've been to Russia, and it's one of the most interesting and awesome countries I've been to.

Not to say I wouldn't stick up for Congo or Equador... :)

hehe. yes, i am russian, but i wasn't born there. all my grandparents were from russia. i'm Canadian now though. :smile:

wusy, Russia had nothing to do with the V2 rocket. The V2 rocket were designed by Werner von Braun and his team in 1944 and used by Germany during the rest of WWII. It was the world's first ballistic missle.

Sucks isn't the word. Their economy is really depressing. But I was still impressed with the steps people will take to make money. You could buy any software there for a buck. Basically they would of course pirate the software, but then they would label the cd so that it looked professional. The case would be printed too, but there would be a little note on some saying "brought to you by proud russian hackers, serial #...". They were selling movies before they were out in the theater in the US. And all of this in normal stores and the subway.

Can't get any blackmarket stuff in Moscow though. It specifically says "can't be sold in Moscow". They have an image or something to uphold in that city. All the money goes to moscow so that city is pretty well taken care of. Reminded me a lot of Paris.

Nonetheless, I have family over there and they all have PHd's, yet they only make $200 a year. My fatherinlaw has three jobs to survive.

Nonetheless, the people are awesome, their clubs rock, the have some of the best museums in the world, their archetecture is amazing, and it's ultra cheap. I spent 6.5 weeks there and only spent $250 bucks. Would have been a couple hundred more but my motherinlaw kept buying food.

I'm not familiar with the V2, but wasn't it the case that just like the modern submarine they were both developed by germans at the end of the war? They were never used, but had they, the war could have ended differently. Note that I said modern sub. I'm not so sure if rockets were used...

I'd look it up, but I'm too lazy...

I don't know your definition of 'modern sub', but the German U-boats were in use even before WWI.

The V2 rocket was developed late in WWII. They were first used in September 1944. About 10,000 rockets were made during the war, and about 3,500 rockets were actually fired. So, they were used in the war, but not enough to change the outcome.

Hmm...i'm no expert here, but lets see if I can word any of this right. During wwII the germans began using subs with incredible success. Once the allies began hunting them down though they were screwed since they were running on solar batteries or something that had to be charged above the surface. So basically the subs were surfaced or at a port for most of the war. The allied battlegroups would destroy them with ease, and even though a sub might sink one ship, the battlegroups would spot them and get them after their first kill. Thus a sub would get one kill and then they were history.

Soon they began creating a periscope type recharging device and advancing the subs greatly to the point where they didn't have to surface (like today), but the war was over. They never got to use them and at the end of that war about 8 out of 10 seaman never made it home. The submarine's were the most unsuccessful part of the war as a whole with a 76% something failure rate. Basically the seaman knew they weren't coming home when they sailed out.

I really don't know much about the rockets, but I knew they were also developed towards the end of the war and was wondering if they were used at all....thanks for the info..

The batteries were lead acid (like a normal car battery). They were charged up by the sub's diesel engines which could only run when the sub was on the surface so subs usually surfaced at night and charged the batteries while they were travelling. Later on they developed the Snorkel (basically just a pipe which brought air down into the sub while it was submerged just below the surface). It is true that subs rarely attacked large convoys but there were always stragglers to be picked off. As far as I know Britain was in major trouble until 1943 with lots of merchant ships lost until the pressure of fighting the west and Russia simultaneously started to take it's toll.

The V2 was only used in limited numbers which is fortunate because we (English) had no real defence against them. The V1 was used earlier in large numbers especially against London but travelled more slowly and could be intercepted by Spitfires and Hurricanes.

Saw a documentary on PBS a couple months back. The subs were constantly attacking everything, but once the British got in the groove of travelling in huge battlegroups the tide changed. Of course everything factors in. Nonetheless, the subs were easy picking by the end of the war and the germans weren't happy knowing their odds of coming home were so slim. Yet they had their orders...

1943 sounds about right. It wasn't until those last couple of years that things got better for them. That was a long war.

The German U-boat was invented before WWI. So they were used throughout all of WWI and WWII. The German subs gave the Allies one hell of a time in WWI, but by WWII they weren't nearly as much of a threat.

During the beginning of WWII they were a huge threat. They cut off all shipping lines and tried to stop all ships from entering or leaving brittish waters. It was a cock fight of sorts with the British having the worlds largest navy, but these subs picking them off. But as I said, towards the end the British figured them out and the subs performed miserably.

Anyways, we're beating a dead horse now...

Most of the V2 team were then given offers they couldn't refuse to work in America and Russia after the war. How do you think America got someone on the moon - they used Germans!
