8500LE or 9000pro?

Which card is better? 8500LE or the 9000pro? Both of them have 64mb of ddr ram. The types of games I play are Black and White, Emperor: Battle for Dune, Freedom Force, Shogun: Total War. Which card would work best with these games? The 8500LE is selling for $88 and the 9000pro for $129.

Definitely the R8500LE. It beats the 9000 PRO in everything from what I see.

As performance/price you are totaly right. But few people saying that R9000Pro is better than R8500LE. Who is lying? If your argue is true, than what is this 40$ difference for?

The R9000 PRO supposedly has better pixel( or maybe it was vertex) shaders, and some new features like FullStream and such, but in games, you don't see the difference from the improved shaders. Also, the reason there's that difference is cause the R8500/LE's been around much longer, therefore their prices have come down to earth, much more than the R9000s. Also, the $88 card is BULK, so not really comparable to a Retail BBA.

9000 Pro doesn't perform as well but it has Dual monitor capability (second CRT or DVI). The 8500LE BBA is single monitor only.

Watch out for some of the really slow memory (200 Mhz and worse) 8500LE's.

$88? I assume you are talking about this card at Newegg. It's labeled as an OEM 8500LE but they have been shipping an OEM 8500 BBA, clocked at 250/275. It's dual monitor capable but the second port is DVI-D, means digital only and a vga adapter will not fit. Read the customer reviews at the above link.

I purchased one of these cards about 3 months ago. It works great and overclocks nicely. It should be perfect for the strategy games you play.

First: What mean "BULK"? Like no-name or something?

Second: How can i know the Ram speeds of these cards? By most of the cards you can't see that info. I mean on the web-sites.

BULK basically means it's clocked a bit slower and usually uses lower quality stuff(?), but it seems like that R8500 OEM from newegg.com doesn't use low quality stuff at all.

You can get the Gigabyte version for $99 at newegg, and it come with the $30 DVI to VGA adapter included

Cool! Looks cool too but it's only clocked at 250/230 (or is it?). Still think the 250/275 card was good deal at $88

I bought that other card months ago for $99. Back then Newegg was stating "No DVI/VGA adapter included" so I ordered the ATI adapter ($8). When I got the card I learned it has a DVI-D port (not a DVI-I) and the adapter doesn't fit. The next day Newegg changed the note to "DVI/VGA adapter does not work". My only bad experience with Newegg. For $8 it wasn't worth returning the adapter.

So the one I saw at newegg.com for $88 will most likely not work with my monitor? I saw both cards at newegg. will the 9000pro not work with my monitor either. I have a compaq cv535 monitor that came with my system.

Ahhh, well, the cheap card doesn't have a second RAMDAC, that's why it can't use the adapter. The Gigabyte card is 250/250, but overclockable, it has the same memory as their retail card, for Gigabyte that's only 3.6ns but that's fine for 275MHz use. In fact, you can flash this card with the Gigabyte retail BIOS if you choose.

This card has 3.3 ns memory but it needs help beyond about 290/315. Works great at 300/325 with a case fan for extra cooling.

Well, I'd rather have all the features too. Like dual display using two CRT's. I don't know how far the Gigabyte card can be pushed, but my calculator says 3.6ns is good for 277MHz. Anything beyond that is overclocking the RAM.

Hýmm. I decided to buy a new XP, too. I found a XP1700 Retail for 69$ at http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?sid=h4wlh19pzll20z7&id=855#moreinfo . I looked at newegg and mwave, but this the cheapest CPU. I really liked that compuplus, they have the cheapest parts!
I don't think it can be a better price at another price but if you find a better solution, please tell me.

Just when I thought this server couldn't get any slower...

I used to shop at compuplus.com, years ago. Good prices and no problems but I decided their shipping charges were too high and started shopping elsewhere. That video card will cost you an additional $14.95 to $24.99 in shipping charges depending on how fast you want it. Still a very good total price for that video card but the video card + CPU will cost between $24.25 to $38.89 in shipping. That's high.

Wauw, answer before the question!
Hýmmm 30$ average shipping-fee than.. What about the other sites? For example what about newegg and mwave? They have the shipping-fee +, or it's included to the product-price?

Don't get me wrong. I think the retail Radeon 8500LE 128MB at $99 + $14.95 shipping is still a great deal for total price. It's just that shipping adds up fast at that site. However, the price of special items might offset the shipping charges. I was just pointing out that you have to look at the total price to compare properly.

For example for the Radeon 8500LE + Athlon XP 1700 retail

Compuplus.com - $99 + 69 (or was it 67) + 24.25 shipping = $192.25

Newegg.com - $115 (OEM, retail 8500le not available at present) + $76 + $11.92 shipping (FedEx 2nd day) = $202.92

[EDIT]
However Newegg offers FedEx Saver shipping (4 to 5 days) which happens to be free for the above two items. Total is $191.

In this case the Compuplus deal is better because you get the retail 8500LE.

Sorry for the confusion. I usually buy from Newegg but not blindly. I look and buy when the price is right.

In general I avoid sites with high shipping charges just because it annoys me.

I have found the 9000pro for $87. Will it work for my monitor without buying an adaptor? http://techbargains.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php/page_id=5/ut=181efc2fa648b895/
