USEast Hardcore players want to hook up?

As I mentioned in my first post to this group a few days ago, I've
been playing Diablo II on and off pretty much since it came out...but
I only started trying out Hardcore relatively recently. As I've been
playing for a while (even though, since it's been on-and-off, I don't
have any high-level characters or super-awesome items to show for it),
I've sort of grown tired of Softcore and also sort of growing tired of
cool items. Not that cool items aren't cool, but I like the challenge
of building a self-sufficient Hardcore character. I'd like to maybe
even get on the high end of the Hardcore Expansion ladder someday, but
that's a big goal...

Anyway, I was wondering if any USEast Hardcore players want to hook
up. A good game is hard to find, and lately I've discovered that's
even more true for Hardcore... and I'd like to play with some steady
people who are also interested in seeing how far they can go with
Hardcore. I have the most experience with Assassins, but I'm thinking
I'd like to make a Necromancer. I might also try an Assassin.
Probably not any of the other classes, though I won't rule out the
possibility. But right now I have *no* Hardcore characters (I deleted
a few dead ones) except for a mule... so I'm going to be starting
pretty much from scratch with my new Necro/Assassin (the former
probably being a Summoner, although I won't rule out a Poison & Bone
Necro build yet, and the latter probably being a Trapsin, even though
I won't rule out Martial Arts entirely). The build I pick probably
depends on who else I'll be playing with... and I just really am
making a short story long here... I just want to know if anyone wants
to play with me! I'm also usually kind of slow for most people,
since, not having more than one mule and not using it often, I pick up
all the gold and usually try to pick up potions so that I don't have
to buy them... so I often end up getting left behind and I don't like
waiting in town until someone sends a portal... I like going along and
participating in the action! Anyway...that's that.

If anyone wants to play... please reply to this or contact me on
Battle.net. My account is "Dividedbyzero"...and, of course, I'm on
the USEast server. I'm able to be online at odd hours, and a lot, as
I'm home-schooled and often don't have anything better to do. Usually
though, I'm on at around midnight or in the afternoon. But mornings
are OK for me too. My hours are flexible, and I'm able to spend as
much as 5 or 6 hours a day/night.

I'm not a member of any Clans right now and don't know much about
them... but there might be some good Hardcore Clans out there too. I
don't know about that right now though. Any offers would be
appreciated, or even recommendations of a Clan or something... I just
don't have anybody to play with right now and usually have trouble
finding good games, and especially games in which people will actually
do Act 3 quests with me. I also like getting all Waypoints which is
another reason I often get left behind! I play Necros, I *like* Act
3, and I *enjoy* getting Waypoints... just what planet am I from?!
Anyway...I'm babbling. Thanks for reading,
Ashley

Mostly all I do these days is a bit of magic finding, but if you find
yourself in a rough spot, or you don't mind twinking I bit, I might be able
to help you get started. I don't have very much nec stuff, though.

But Jill/neithskye does . . . :)

Jill?

I'll try to remember to look you up.

Well, I figure if I ever *do* get Godly items in Hardcore... should I
die, I would lose them unless someone could loot my corpse (which may
not always be the case)... and that would just be a reason to feel bad
about dying. So, in a way it'll also be good to make a non-item
dependent character... so that if I do die in Hardcore, which is
certainly possible, it would be much less disappointing. Although it
would be disappointing because I had worked to build the character...
I wouldn't really lose anything, and could put it into perspective
better and learn from the mistakes that led to my death.

Also to me, with the potential to buy items from various places online
(how does that work anyway?)... and considering how easy it is to find
someone who is willing to give away impressive free items because
they've spent so much time magic-finding... somehow items lose their
lustre when it's not so hard to get awesome ones.

Thank you for the offer. I still haven't started my brand new
Hardcore character yet... but I will try to remember to say hi
sometime on Battle.net. A level 97 zon, if Hardcore (well, if
Softcore too but still...) would be pretty impressive. I haven't
played any Amazons in a while, though I did a few times before Lord of
Destruction came out. The highest character I have right now is
actually a level 32 Softcore Assassin. Seems pretty pathetic
considering I've been playing for a very long time, but I keep having
to start my accounts over because I go so long without playing in
between times.

Aye. I did have a lot of nec stuff, but I gave a lot of it away last
week. :) However, I still odds and ends kicking about.

To Somebody, look me up sometime: *neithskye (and *neithskye101, 102,
etc.). I haven't been online in about 3 weeks or so as I've been
playing the CE mod, but a lot of that had to do with not really having
anyone to play the game with online, with the exception of partying to
beat a boss or rushing mules. With the horrible lag issues I'd been
experiencing, especially in HC, and since I was pretty much soloing
anyway, it made sense to go back to SP. Kinda.

I've been toying with the idea of starting a totally new character that
I've never tried before, and it would be much more enjoyable playing
with someone. I also like to get every WP, and a pile of gold left not
picked up is simply awful. :p

Anyway, I need to be online sometime this week - I'll look to see if
you're on, or feel free to message me. :)

I'm not looking to leech off someone for items anyway... even though
gifts would be nice... so that's not a big deal anyway. I likely
wouldn't have anything useful in return anyway except maybe some extra
gold.

That's me too... I would like to see how well I could really do in
Hardcore, but I realized I didn't really find much of a point to it
unless I had good people to play with. Not that Hardcore games are
really any worse usually, but a bad Hardcore game is a lot worse than
a bad Softcore game, because dying is a whole new problem!

I'll look you up sometime. I only have the *Dividedbyzero account
right now, although I have had other accounts in the past, they should
have all expired by now... I might create others in the future, but
for now, this one's good. Is there a maximum number of characters a
person can have per account?

Hmm... that makes me wonder if I should try a different class! When I
first started playing Diablo II (got it as a gift from my brother a
looong time ago) I believe I played Sorceresses first, but that class
quickly bored me. Sorceresses do have some unique capabilities, but I
guess I just didn't like the class all that much. I also tried
Amazons... I don't believe I even started playing Necromancers until
the Expansion came out, though again, I didn't really play that often
early on... just occasionally, a bit at a time... and often my
accounts would expire while I was in a break period. Assassins were
my weapon of choice at first after the Expansion came out, but I read
an article about Necromancers on a Web site that inspired me to try
building a Summoner... I've built a Softcore Summoner now (aptly named
"PracticeSummon") and he's at level 26 right now. I'm also trying to
keep an Act 2 Combat mercenary leveling with him in addition to his
skeletons and Golems.

I'm actually having much more fun building my Necromancer than I ever
had with any of the other classes... I like not having to deal with
hands-on melee combat, because constantly having to click monsters is
tiresome... and I find that even though I liked Assassins more at
first, my Necro has more long-term playability to me. In other words,
I'm not getting sick of him quite as easily. ;)

Anyway...I'm just going on and on and I forgot what I was even going
to say! I was trying to decide whether to try a new character class
or not. I've tested each character class, but the class I've played
the least is probably the Barbarian. I might decide on trying a new
class to be different... or, who knows? Maybe I'll try to build a
Poison & Bone Necromancer... or another untried variation on a
familiar class (never really done a Martial Arts Assassin either).

Will do. :) Lately, (assuming you're in the same Eastern Standard time
zone if you're on the USEast server) I'm on at about noon and
somewhere around 9 PM usually... each for maybe two to four hours,
depending on how inspired I feel...

Well, you don't have to constantly click monsters. Here's what's an
apparently little known or little understood feature of the game--

Say you're playing a barb. Hotkey a melee attack, any melee attack, so that
you can select it with your right mouse button--let's say Frenzy. OK, now
go find yourself a group of monsters--the Bloody Foothills is a good place.
Now, make sure you don't a specific monster selected, depress that right
mouse button.

Quick as you do, your barb will take off like a scalded pup. Head toward a
group of monsters and keep holding down on that mouse button. Just as soon
as he reaches them he's going to start Frenzying butt and taking names.

Wait!! Don't let off on that mouse button yet--keep holding it down. If
you do this right, and keep him pointed toward monsters, he'll keep
automagically running and pounding until you've cleared out every last
monster in the entire Bloody Foothills. And beyond. And with only ONE
mouse click.

This feature works pretty much in this fashion with all the characters and
all the attacks, even non-melee attacks, to some extent. You can do some
pretty interesting and useful things with it, in combination with other
stuff that you have keyed to the left button. As you've probably already
discovered, you mostly have to target monsters one at a time with that left
button in order to get things rolling.

But that right button is D2's answers to chronic button-pushing disease for
melee'ers.

Please don't be offended if you already knew this, because ever so many
people don't, and maybe one of them will see this and understand that you
don't have to develop a terminal case of carpal tunnel syndrome in D2 to
play a melee character. :)

No offense taken, and I hadn't actually tried this anyway. Not sure
it ever occurred to me to wonder if something like that existed...so I
didn't actually know of it. I'll have to try this out sometime. It'd
probably be better to try it out with an Assassin sometime though, as
I'm not sure my Necro has any non-melee attacks, well, scarcely any at
all now that I think of it, but probably few that would work with this
anyway... but I'll have to try that out. I usually don't play
Barbarians, but if I ever do I'll try it out with those guys too...
Thanks for the info. :)

You know, I should start posting with that "Dividedbyzero" as my alias
so that I don't have to put it at the end of all these messages...
