I don't think you will be hitting anything higher than 9000 with your system and vcard
The 128mb ver is a bit slower than the 64mb ver, and as such.. I've only seen 64mb ti4200s breaking the 9000 score

But, the ti4200 overclocks very well. Try it =)

Okay, I just read the score of someone's 4200 128mb
He ran it on a P4 2.53ghz, 512mb DDR 400 system.
He made 9490 3DMarks.
So maybe your 8500 is as good as it gets on an Athlon 1.6ghz?

My ti4200 64mb runs on an Athlon 1.73ghz, 512mb DDR333 system. w/o overclock, my ti4200 hits 8900-9100 3D Marks.
After overclocking from 250/500 to 290/300, my 3DMark score has hit between 9600 and 9750 marks.
But again, those scores are due to the ti4200 64mb's higher clock speeds.
My card runs very stable at 290/300. I would think you could push your card's default 240/444 to 250/500 w/o problem.
But since you said w/o overclock, Im guessing you really dont want to.
So,have you turned off AA in the 3DMark test setup? That will help you get a higher score.

Why does the extra 40+ points matter? It's not like you win a prize or something when you hit 9000.

Short of completely scrubbing the drivers off and reinstalling them, I don't know.

Make sure you run the benchmark first thing after you boot up. That will give you a better score.

If ignorance is bliss, then why is everyone so miserable?

FYI, overclocking and tweaking everything on my xp 1900, geforce 4 ti 4400 (315/685) with 512 corsair pc2700, I was able to get a 12342 3dmark score. Not to bad eh?

Try tweaking the settings for your video card. I'm able to get a 9200 with a Overclocked Tbird and R8500. Download one of the Nvidia tweakers out there. (I'm sure someone could reccomend something) One of them should have a 3dmark setting. When I clicked the 3dmark setting on the Rage3d tweaker I got 200 points just from that. You can scrape up an additional 40-50 points from disabling any unneccesary background services.Take look at this site http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm. It gives a descriptions of alot of services that are running in the background, so at least you wont have to worry about crashing your rig while disabling uneccesary services.

How does one overclock a ti4200? I have never ventured into that realm before, but I might be interested :)

What drivers are you using? Detonator 40.72 drivers will give you around 500-900 point increase in some instances. I run a XP 1500+ and a Leadtek Ti4200 64mb and my initial score was 8377. I then installed the 40.72 drivers and my score hit 9079.

Get a program like Powerstrip or NVMAX. Then it's pretty self-explanatory from there. Just move up your clock speed little by little, run 3dMark and check for artifacts/glitches.

Ti4200 64mb(default 250/500) should get to or close to 300/600 depending on what manufacturer you have.

Ti4200 128mb(default 250/444) should get to or close to 300/550-600.

But always to be safe, don't run it at the highest stable overclock. Your card won't last very long.

Why would you even bother running overclocked anyways (if you've got a Ti4200 already)? The only reason I do it is to be able to brag about my 3D Mark score, but then I lower it right back down. I can run basically anything with my Ti4200.
