I'm kinda in a hurry to buy a card coz I just broke my other one and I have 5 videocards from ATI and NVidia to choose from basing on thier performance and price comparison. Which card will be the best buy? I'll go for speed rather than features so please rank them accordingly.

GF4 MX440
GF3 TI500
Radeon 8500
Radeon 9000
Radeon 9000 Pro

I had somewhat similar rankings too...I know the Ti500 and R8500 would be at top 1 and 2...but I thought that the Ti500 would beat the R8500...didn't the Ti500 beat the R8500 because of the sampling methods used...anyway since the R8500 is still cheaper I'd buy it AGAIN! I might have broken my current R8500 so if it is indeed broken I'll prolly buy the 128MB version.

Thanks guys!

The Ti500 will still outperform the R8500 in AA, but the R8500 will beat it in almost everything else

They were neck and neck at first, but then ATI came out with better drivers. The first 8500 drivers sucked at AA, which I don't use anyway. If I wanted my monitor to look blurry, I'd wear my wife's glasses!

how much burden can 2x AA put on the videocard? I'd like to at least see for myself how AA improves the image. Will AA work with an LCD monitor...coz compared to CRT, LCD monitors seem to have more "crisper" jaggies, it's very noticeable...In short explanations what does Aniso, Truform and Smoothvision does to a game.

Tom's Graphics guide has several articles that explain these things. Just remember that most of his 8500 test are old, so they used the earlier, slower drivers.

if the ati and geforce you are looking at are very close in3d performance, i would go with ati. ati, imho, has much better 2d quality and they beat every one in tv out performance.

The 8500 is much easier to find than the Ti 500, and from what I've seen lately-the 8500 64Mb ATI retail w/ games can be had for $110 if you search the Web for the best price. GeFo 3 Ti500 is still around $250 in most places. It's up to you, but I would prefer an 8500 at that price point.
