Does anyone have any idea when/if nVidia will be releasing a 8x agp video card? I am planning on putting together a new computer fairly soon and I really want to have a graphics card with the new 8x speed. I know ATI has the Rage 9700 but I always have been always will be (maybe) a nVidia fan.

Yeah, NV18/NV28 will probably be released in October. It's basically the current GF4 MX/Ti but with AGP8X.

If you want to know my point on this (and even if you don't :P ), AGP 3.0 is... useless ! Just a thought though. Several months ago I had some problems and had to set AGP to 2X, and when I finally fixed the problem (and enabled AGP 4X) I got an impressive 200 points increase in 3dmark 2K1 (it was some time ago, when the first Geforce3 were released, so I was at ~6000 I guess)... If u cannot saturate AGP 2X, I dont see what could bring AGP 8X... Should I be wrong though, don't hesitate to tell me, I'm eager to learn !

having the 8x bus speed sure made the radeon 9700 pro soar above the competition. the added speed of the bus allowed them to make everything go faster. if you look at the stats of the radeon 9700 pro it is everything the gf4 ti4600 has times 2. having the 8x instead of 4x allowed everything in it to double. at least that is what it looks like.

I thought the next chips nVidia was putting out were the NV3x chips.

As far as I know both THG and Anandtech ran their tests on a AGP 4x board.

Yes, the R9700 is twice as fast as the Ti4600 in many cases, but it isn't because of AGP8X. The R9700 has twice as many pipelines and twice the bandwidth of the Ti4600.

Nope NV18/28 are the next chips.

And the difference between AGP4X and 8X is negligable.
