CE MOD: Paladins? An Unknown quantity.

Have never played a paladin before. Never played anything except a
Barbarian or an Amazon for that matter.

I have been thinking of playing a Paladin in the Chaos Empire
Modification. It would be very helpful if I had a few pointers on
viable builds, Chaos Empire viable builds only please as I do not play
unmodded D2/LOD anymore.

I have been reading how playing a Paladin can be fun and decided to try
it out; so far 'Templar' the paladin has managed to go through the
blood moor twice and is at level four. havent distributed any Stat
Points or allocated any skill points. Have yet to go into the den of
evil. The going is tough as unlike an amazon he cannot stand and
deliver from afar, and unlike a barbarian he cannot shout and make them
run away.

Name: Templar
Class: Paladin
Clvl: Four
Equipment: Basic CE Mod starter kit for paladins
Stat points allocated: None
Skill points allocated: None
Status: Plodding on; knee deep in the dead, struggling every step of
the way.

Uhh...has anyone managed to digup a user-friendly manual/readme for the
Chaos Empire Mod yet? The phrozenkeep forums are quiet useful but do
not really work that well when you are playing and need to look
something up.

I've a CE Paladin. Third build of the guy, to be sure, but he's fun.

Are you on CCC? HCL? If so let's team and storm the world!

If not tell me what you'd like to know.

My experiences is that low level Pally's are a bit stressful since the
skills you'll use long term are all the level 24+ skills, meaning you're
banking every skill point but those necessary to get your pre-req's
filled.

What to do: get money and gamble good equipment. Money comes from
potions (yellow and green) sold to Gheed.

Good equipment will start off being low-level uniques and sets. It will
become rares tempered with body parts.

Something I'd do: Create one of each character class, go into an
existing game, and dump all starter equipment, leave, and delete that
character. Last of all come in with Templar, and pick up everything.
Use the Assassin's gloves, the Zon's belt, the Barb's hat (until you're
old enough to use your own), your boots, and you can give your rogue the
zon's bow as soon as she's old enough. The Druid and Necro rings and
the Sorc ammy are the other immediately useful items; you'll later be
able to use the Barb's armor. For each item, you can change the name to
be Templar by cubing that items with 1 Horadric Scroll. This is just
like the D2LOD Anya Quest reward. Sell the rest or the starter equipment
(necro armor, zon fingercovers, assassin katar, etc), the money is
useful to get a decent weapon. For that, shop Akara for a 2-socket
scepter.

I play Single Player only. BNet juveniles forced me out I am sad to
say.
Online used to be so much fun initially but then it soured.

The CCC version of BNet is completely clean. There is a PvP area for
dueling, no other hostile action is allowed. Stealing an item being
muled/cubed by another character is grounds for your account being
deleted. Give it a try.

For CE/CCC I'm Webwalker...

What is the CCC version? In all the games I've been in there has been
absolutely no PKing and I've never seen a duel take place.

I've been in games where there have been 4 to 6 players and the ground
is literally covered with nice items all over the rogue camp including
eggs. No one has ever picked up anything that didn't belong to them.
Many times someone will come in a game and tell you that they left a
bunch of stuff on the ground for you. It's a refreshing change from
the 12 year old mentality of most players on BNET.

I've seen nice drops from monster kills left on the ground that no one
picks up because they don't know who actually made the kill. Too bad
BNET never had a stringent TOS as well as enforcing it.

Chaos Core Community (JenWorld or Europe servers). There is an Asia
server about which I know only how to spell the name of the continent.

My experience also... but there *is* a dueling area if you wish to.

It is kosher to ask "whose stuff is this by the stash?"

Oft-times the answer comes back "junk I threw out".

I went to Gheed and gambled, looking for high-level stuff for my Necro.
Selling the rejects back to Gheed was pointless so I tossed them on the
ground unless they were *real* junk (Isenharts Horns)... I'd sold a
soul, and there was money all over the ground.

Every time somebody entered I said "Yes it's OK to mule here, grab some
gold while you're at it and anything on the ground is free". It was The
Normal Way.

Ok, I pretty much figured that was what CCC meant. I have never been
able to create an account on the CCC server. Jenworld...no problem,
CCC server tells me that every account I try to create is already in
use, even the nonsensical ones like Sdrfe43wdkk.

Do you select Jenworld, or Chaos Core Community when logging into Bnet
(even though it's really not bnet)?

>It is kosher to ask "whose stuff is this by

I have asked that question before and a couple of times the answer was
that someone was muling, once someone said, "take what you want and sell
the rest or leave it for someone else".

I think that's my favorite part of the game. :)

Yeah plenty of gold to go around when there's hundreds of millions in
gold laying in one pile!!!

CCC accounts are created via the web page.

I was also thinking of making a Paladin. Would you mind please telling
me what skills yours has?

I have the Travincial set - dunno if it's any good. My barb has been
keeping every Paladin-related item he finds, from low-level stuff to
the higher stuff. I've never played a Pally before and I don't know if
any of it will prove useful, so I keep it all just in case.

Yes, for my barb, too, especially in Hell. The max end of my damage
exceeds my life so I knew that, while IM-ed, one screw-up would get me
(I play SC in this mod, but still). By the time I beat Diablo, I was
just exhausted. :)

OK, Here's IronHat lvl 43 1552/107 Life/Mana
Gear gives +1 all (eye of eitlich w/ PDiamond) +3 Pally (2 on hat, 1 on
Hellchatter shield) and +2 Offensive (Horsemans Gloves).
Com Off Def (read each skill tab L->R then down)
7 9 6
6 8 13
6 8 6
11 8 13
6 8 6
7 8 13
7 9 6
6 8 6
14 21 6
7 21 6
stats 108/111/238/35
resists 233/194/292/226 which is
79/79/79/75 in Norm,
79/69/79/75 in NM, and would be
-66/-106/-9/-74 in Hell (I'm not going there any time soon).

Main weapon is Vanquisher broadsword (eth as dropped by Duriel), 4
socket, 4 Sol (+36 min damage) with 25%CB; armor is Shattering Blow (eth
as dropped by Meph) breastplate giving 1%/clvl CB, and Poisonous Boots
(gambled) giving 30%CB => 98%CB (over the cap limit there) so I'm
enjoying CB as often as possible.

Chaos Sanctuary was tough: Fist of the Heavens and thrown javelins
(tempered for elemental damage) with Fanaticism behind them, and some
reliance on my rogue merc who has the same level as I.

Everything else is pretty tedious Cuisinart Vegematic RotoMulcher with
Zeal/Fanat except for PI which get Veng/Conv. Void where Prohibited,
Taxed or Iron Maidened.

Oh, yes, I know. In fact, I have nothing but Berserk keyed as an attack
anywhere where IM-casting critters may be, even if I don't see them. I
just still found it very harrowing, especially since those Black
Knights all seemed PI and MI, and come in bunches of 20, and also since
this was my very first melee char ever.

I normally have the left click as a Normal attack, and at one point I
realized that when I was running up to something to kill it with
Berserk on the right click, I was actually attacking it with a Normal
attack the first hit or two. Not very bright. :) Good thing I figured
this out before that happened while I was IM-ed.

Berserk, for a barb, turns *all* physical damage into Magical damage.
No IM return damage. Even on Magic Immune, the elemental damage from
items and charms will (slowly) take the bad guy out.

And playing ChickenBarb...
