Insight's Critical Strike and the merc?

Hi,

I've posed this question a few times in threads about entirely different
subjects, but nobody reacted. So I figured people missed.

So here the question is again:

Does the +5 to the amazon passive skill 'Critical Strike' affect an Act 2
Merc wielding an Insight polearm?

(Critical Strike adds a %-chance to do a Critical Strike, i.o.w., do
double damage.)

Is the merc affected by this skill, and does this mean he sometimes does
the double damage as listed on the merc character screen.

And while I (hopefully!) have your attention: what do people feel is the
best gear to put on a merc when it's an Insight polearm you want to wield,
and the merc is protecting a single sorc (the merc gear requirements
change a bit when he's surrounded by a horde of f.i. skeletons).

I figured you want some leech, which is most easily gotten from a helmet.
What armor? (please leave out godly stuff like a Fortitude armor

I have one sorc with a Prayer/Insight merc, and he's using an ethereal
Partizan with a rather nice Insight (still haven't found an ethereal elite
polearm with 4 sockets), a Crown of Thieves and an ethereal Duriel's
Shell.

Standard (IMO) upgrade to be done: replace the Duriel's Shell with a
Duress armor. Helm-wise, I'm a bit stuck. Delerium would be nice due to
it's crowd control features, but no leech. How about Vampire's Gaze?

I'm open to suggestions.

I am using an ironpelt for my ES/FO sorc so her merc stays with the DR/MDR
theme. For my pure blizz sorc I am using a skin of the flayed one to give
the merc additional leech as well as life replenish. Both are wearing Tal's
masks since that is the helm I find most with life leech.

So how does this merc survive, since I see no leech anywhere: Obedience
certainly doesn't provide it, Duress also not, and IIRC, Sazabis helm als
has no leech...?

Well, I haven't heard Act 2 mercs starting to either Zeal or Berserk when
you equip a Passion polearm, so that's why I was wondering if it's
different for a passive skill like Critical Strike.

He dies a bit..for now...but if i tend to noticed him getting in alot of
strife then i teleport out giving him a bit of healing time before getting
right back in the action... The Szagabis Helm was not a long term thing...
For a short time i had a Shako on him..But i've leant that to Custards for
now whilest he plays his Hammerdin he's made...
