Safe spots in Throne

I have heard that people often "sit" a character in one of the wings of
the Throne room after clearing it out, so that that character can get
the XP while still being safe. Does anybody do/has anybody done this?
And did it work?

Can Achmael (wave 2) raise some undead in there through walls? I
presume that would be the most dangerous thing for the "sitting"
character, other than carelessness in not clearing it out thoroughly.

And my personal favourite:

Dolls. Be careful if there are dolls where the minions spawn. If you can,
take the time to drag them away from that room before killing them. That
way they're not revived by Achmel. Those damn little things will just pop
into existence right next to you when revived and next thing you know
you're dead because you killed a monster you didn't even know was there.
