I was reading through the Hercules R9700 review over at Digital Life Link, and I found some very interesting news concerning ATI cards vs. nVidia in the beta benchmarks:

Quote :

When we used the beta version of the DEMO (b.927) the test looked ridiculous, but the day before the release of the official DEMO we found out that the ATI based video cards fall so much behind because of texture compression disabled in the ATI drivers (to make the tests without S3TC/DXTC). However, the UT2003 seems to be using precompressed textures, and cards based on other chipsets could use it because, for example, in all GeForces it's impossible to switch off texture compression in the driver settings. The cards were in unequal positions. Now it's corrected.

As you can see, the pre-release benchmarks shown at Anandtech are completely invalid assessments of the R8500's UT2K3 performance.

As Matisaro would say, VINDICATION!

Pshaw, until I get a reason why my Ti200 sucks so much in this game, I won't rest!
At least you 8500 users can run at 100FPS while I am running at average 40, and it drops frequently to 20.
