Well its time to upgrade from integrated video. I dont have much money so I narrowed it down to GF4 MX420 or 440. Now what im wondering is how big is the difference? I notice the 440 seems to have DDR, and I dont know how much of a differnce that makes. There is a $10 between the 2 on newegg.com. $60 vs $70. Is the extra $10 worth it? Would I notice the difference? Also if any can recommend a card that is about the same price and performs better, ill appreciate it.

I'm not sure about the price, but the Radeon 7500 card seems to perform at around the same level as the GF4 MX series. And with the newest Catalyst drivers from ATI the Radeon should see a decent performance leap. A nice little bonus is that the Radeon has double monitor support and a TV out.

ye i would look into the radeon 7500 or perhaps the 8500?
but what ever u do, DON'T get the mx420, it uses SDR memory which is way slow.

NEVER BUY MX420 . Buy MX440 or Radeon 7500

MX420 has memory bandwidth of only 2.7 GB/s compared to MX440's 6.4 GB/s. This memory bandwidth difference causes MX440 to perform about 2x better than MX420.

Well I didnt think about Radeon.. The 7500LE is actually a little cheaper than the MX440.. Now I want to know... Whats the differnt between the 7500 and the 7500 LE? Also how does the 7500 do against the MX440, assuming both have 64mb DDR. Is one a little faster than the other or what? Anyway thanks for the help

From what I can find it looks like the 7500LE has a slightly higher clock speed, but I am not positive. The MX440 does seem to do a bit better than the 7500 in most benchmarks.

That means the its a slower radeon 7500. You can overclock it to the 7500's speeds though.

The 8500LE is the slower of the 8500 line, but you should be able to overclock it to an 8500 no problem. The 9000 is sometimes refered to as the MX killer. That is because it is better than the MX line of cards.

As far as refurbished items go, I am not sure how anyone does with that. But I do believe that you do not get a full warranty if you buy refurbished.
