What is the advantage of having higher RAMDAC speeds, and in which segment does that help most when it's high?

In general 2D usage the display will seem more snappy. Used to be a Matrox strength but now all manufacturers are aware of this.

I don't think that there are any new cards around with poor 2D performance.
