I want to get a 9700 PRO but have some questions about how it will fit with my currents system with:
1ghz ATHLON (upgradable to 2000+ Athlon XP)
256MB DDR 2100

I want to know if this card would be overkill for this system? Also about how long do you guys think this card with this system will last me? I'm looking for a lifespan on 2 years, is that resonable? I'm just trying to see if its worth the $370.

Not without a good processor. I am not even sure if an athlon xp 2000+ will allow that card to achieve its full potential. But im willing to bet if u do get an athlon xp, double the ram, and get that vid card it will last u a good while, prolly about 2 years, maybe more.

2 years ago you could get a Pentium III 866 and a GeForce2 Ultra, and you'd still be playing games at reasonable resolutions and framerates today.

Your card will be good for the latest games for at least 4 years. Which means it will probably outlive the system.

Naysayers, remember the TNT2? Not the cut down M64 or Vanta, the full version? It can play most new games at 800x600 with medium detail.

I have a TNT2 m64 and it plays MOHAA, AvP2, SOFII and things like that reasonably. I can´t use 32 bit colors or very high resolutions, but the games run.

Yes, and the TNT2 was originally twice as powerfull, with a 128-bit memory bus.

Just make sure your power supply can handle the load!

Reference my XP/Radeon 9700/Audigy post below for the sordid details.
