I am in desperate need of a good video card and my crapy mini atx motherboard only has 2 PCI slots. Any suggestions on a good PCI card are welcome. Is there a PCI version of any Geforce 3 or Geforce 4 Ti's?
thanks,
folken

Your best bet would be to find a garage sale and rip the card out of the door stopper.

Buy an new computer! PCI cards are so old they fart DUST!
Sorry if that was a little harsh but its the truth.

Try the Geforce 4 MX440. It's PCI I think. Search for it on the web. It's about 60 dollars.

You can choose from a GeForce2MX, GeForce4MX, or Radeon7500. They all have PCI card versions. Why only those? I think for power reasons. Well, that and the bandwidth of PCI is so slow that anything faster is a complete waste to put on PCI anyway. Chances are, so is a GeForce4MX for that matter. Heh heh.

Of course, with a mini ATX motherboard, chances are you're also running a complete PoS power supply that may need upgrading as well should you put in a new video card. If the upgrade makes your PC unstable, it's probably that.

Likewise, chances are you also have a mini ATX case with complete crap for cooling, which may need to be improved somehow to cool your new card. I know with my mini ATX case I actually had to cut out plastic in the front of the case as well as drill some holes so that I could mount a 60mm fan in the front for air intake to complement the exhaust fan from my power supply. Why? Because there simply was no where else to mount a fan on that case, and the case needed better air flow.

So in really, you probably are better of buying a new system. It poses a lot less work and much improved performance over a GeForce4 MX.

However, as money is quite often an object, a new PC is often not a choice. So if you do try for replacing the video card with one of the above, then keep the power supply and cooling in the back of your mind in case your new video card makes your PC unstable. If anything makes it unstable, it'll probably be the power supply just isn't up to snuff.

My suggestion is to TOSS THAT BOARD, it's garbage. You can't get good performance, or even fair performance, from any PCI video card. About 4 years ago the TNT reached the peak of PCI bandwidth. All subsequent cards do only a little better.

if U really wanna limit yourself, the current best PCI card would B the Radeon 9000 PCI... DX8.1 support rather than a GF4MX Dx7 limited card...
