Ladder Characters

Hi all,
still new to Diablo 2 online, and this is probably a silly question, but
here goes...
what's the difference between a ladder character and a non-ladder character?

Ladder characters and non-ladder characters cant share items which means
there are less dupes (Duplicated items that will disappear). However Ladder
characters only last a set amount of time... after which they all become
non-ladder (at same time) whenever bNet decides to start a new ladder.

Ladder characters have more horadric cube formula's available to them and
special ladder-only runewords.

The higest ladder characters get put in a "hall of fame" on bNets website (I
thinx) and they had a prize for first person to reach level-99 when new
ladder started.

So... ladder is like a competition-character & non-ladder is old-competition
or people not good enough to play in ladder (Im joking!!! ;¬)
