Is there any word about when the Trident XP4 video cards are gonna come out? I read in anandtech that it will be in October 2002. Im really excited about what price/performance it has to offer. Anyone know any new info about the cards?

No sorry. But I just have to ask, The Radeon 9700 will force down prices on the GeForce 4 cards, why not then be satisfied with the proven quality from NVidia. I hadn´t even heard about Trident before the new models were anounced.

Trident was extremly known during the 386-486 days, almost everyone had a VGA card by them! I'm surprised it didn't strike you!

Actually the high end XP4 T3 is 99$ US, no GF4 can go there yet, TI. They had benched the T3, if I am not mistaken, or I think the T2 which was in early Beta stages on Anandtech, and had about 80% the Ti4200 performance. It wasn't even fully taped out or even completly optimized. Recently they claimed DX9 was added, AND the T3 will have 700MHZ memory. So the T3 may as well be even stronger than a Ti4600, or equally, WITH DX9 at 99$.
I think it is possible that it will be like that.

It certainly sounds promising.

The first PC I used continuously was borowed, had Windows 3.11 and all I knew how to do on it was play some DOS games and use WordPad (which took about 15 minutes to load).
It´s only recently that I´ve gotten interested in the hardware side of computer-technology.

In 800 x 600 resolution only.

Recently they claimed DX9 was added
Will all XP4 (T1, T2 and T3) chips will be DX9 capable?

Regardless of their performance, I am impressed to learn that how low power they are going to consume compared to GF4 Ti sereies. They will run cool enough without active cooling. And their low power consumption is a blessing to people like me who can't find a good psu. (I can find max. 300W psu in my country)

I heard all of them are DX9, according to either Anand or THG. I don't like when they throw sketchy claims like this in the middle of another discussion, it sidetracks and leaves you wondering!

Yes it is impressive how cool running they are. That shared pipeline technology may be innovative in the end if in many many game benches it proves to stay UP THERE. The shared pipe is cool also because the transistor count is roughly 1/4th of the R9700 or Ti4600, yet it is capable of performing already with optimistic results. This low count allows efficient cooling and I am lead to believe that it will allow monstrous clocking at even 0.15m, so that in itself allows the cards to perhaps have promising futures. The more competition, the merrier anyway, I mean if I was able to grab a DX9 card, which could potentially play Doom III smoothly, AND costs me less than 150$ which is the average gamer market segment, then Trident may be on their way to be the next addition to the "Terrible twos"!

My memory did not fail me:

It is indeed a 300MHZ core-700MHZ DDR at 11GB/sec WITH DX8.1 and DX9 compliance for 99$. Hopefully performance will be right up in the Ti4600 alley, and that once DX9 games become common, it will lead over the Ti4600, leaving us using an extremly cheap card that offers so much for 99$!

EDIT: Just checked more on the article, WOW, 4W MAX for the T3, this means extreme clocks with possible high performance at only 4W. ATi could really learn from Trident here. It uses 0.13m though, so I guess it leaves room for clocks up to 1GHZ. It uses 30M transistors, so it's about half the Ti4600 and almost 1/4th of the R9700. It should compete well against the R9500 which is estimated at 200$.

From their website, I saw that they are going to have their system builder summit from 21st till 23rd Oct. Will that be the release of the XP4?

I'm curious of the XP4 cards' performance. If their claims are true, they will make Nvidia looks really bad...

Nice to see this dead thread alive again.
