Is there a statistics program for d2 that can sit in memory and record and
catalogue set and unique items that you find, along which how much magic
find u had at the time? I wrote a database for manually recording this
information, and lost it on reinstall, along with about 1000 records, and
just can't be bothered making it again. Last time I heard, maphack didn't do
this.
thx

You know that such program violates the EULA right?
What possible insight can you gain from such information anyways? If
you wish to use statistics to determine an optimal MF number and
replicate that each time hoping for the same result, you will be
disappointed.

I'm just one of those strange people that likes to see patterns in things.
It serves no purpose other than my curiosity. If I wrote a game I'd make
this kind of thing built in, and would probably be stupid for doing so. lol

Seems like a better way than simply relying on the
no-references-provided drop calculators - I have yet to see one that
says how it gets its numbers. Garbage-in, garbage-out.
At least empirical methods have some scientific value, even if the
sample space is small. By automating it, that would make it easier to
overcome that limitation.
I'm not sure it's easy to match drops-to-monsters using an automated
tool, but I think it would be a no-brainer to match drops-to-levels. I
think you could theoretically do it at the network level (i.e., outside
of diablo app, no hack required, provided the data crosses the network
and you can sniff it).
Technical question: when you press the ALT key to see drops, have they
already been sent to the client, or do you request them from the server?
I'm guessing the client already knows them, since I can recall being
lagged and the ALT key still works...

Yes, the client already has the information when you press ALT. That's why
"GrabIt"-like programs work. I, too, was thinking that a statistics program
could just scan the data stream and log the information in a file.
