This seems like a stupid question but I don't know the answer. That's why I'm asking.

I have a 64MB Radeon 8500 retail boxed card in my system.
If I increase the AGP Aperture in my system BIOS from 64MB to a higher value will it increase 3D performance on my system?
Currently I have 512MB of PC1066 installed.

Definition of AGP Aperture:

Quote :

AGP Aperture - If you have an AGP video card installed, you may be able to change this setting. This value can usually be set in your computer's BIOS. The AGP Aperture is the amount of system memory that the AGP board can address and use as graphics memory. Often, the default setting is 64MB. Increasing this value (assuming you have enough system memory) may increase performance in 3D games that use more memory than you have on your video card.

My primary goal is getting the highest 3DMark score I can get from my current setup.

Thanks

It most definitly will, I recommend you even try 256MB for the sake of your RAM size. Always set the Aperture at half the RAM or less, and twice the video card's.
Expect some boost. (128MB is the most frequently used and recommended)
Also, although I am very uninformed by this, Intel has a program called Application Launch Accelerator for the P4, dunno what it does but you might wanna give it a try if you haven't, supposedly it boosts P4 performance, either that or the P4-optimized compiler.

All the rules you've heard of about what to set it to? My experience says ignore them and set it at 128MB. Even if you only had 128MB of RAM to begin with.

gotta be worth trying all the settings out surely? it won't take too long.
I had a huge improvement once setting it to 256 on an epox 8kha+ with a gf3 ti200. Anything below that and i would drop an average of 20% fps.
