The 8500 will beat the 9000.
I believe the main difference between the two is bit bandwidth between the GPU and the memory.
I think the 8500 has a 256bit path to memory and the 9000 has a 128bit path.
Don't hold me to that statement because I could be wrong.
Also I believe the 8500 and the 9000 use the same core except the 9000 core is built using a 150nm process where as the 8500 is built using a 180nm process. It is easier to overclock the 9000 core because it uses less power and generates less heat.
