Hey, I had a question about using runes in socketed items. How would
someone get the popular 'enigma archon' if the enigma is a unique item
to start with, and according to the laws of diablo2, runewords can only
fit into socketed items with no magical properties...hmm?

enigma is a runeword not a uniq item.
put the correct runes in, in correct order and a 4 socket armor and u
get enigma

Enigma = Runeword
Archon = High-level plate armor
High ED% armour is best for runeword armors (as all armors) but the highest
ED you can have with a runeword is 15% for armor.
(ED = Enhanced Defense)
Make sure your armor does not have a magical prefix/suffix and is not a
rare/unique/set item... with UPTO 15% Enhanced defense. The rest is just
putting the "Enigma" runewords runes in the right order ;¬)

Let me translate.
15% refers to the maximum extra defense that you can get on a normal
(white) armor. In this case you have a 15% extra defense archon plate
with 4 sockets.
Enigma is a runeword. (Runewords are like unique items, but they can be
embedded into variable base items. For example, Gladiator's Bane is
always a wire fleece, but Enigma can be Archon Plate, or Mage Plate
etc...).
Place the correct runes, in the correct order, into the correct base
item type, and voila! You have a runeword.
Be aware that runewords placed into superior items will have greatly
increased cost to repair. I have hear of runewords that cost more than
30,000 gold per point in durability to repair!

For *very* small values of 4
The runes are Jah Ith Ber in that order.

Alright, thanks. It's very clear to me now. You said 4 socket armor
though - wouldn't it be 3 socket for Jah Ith Ber? (3 word combos dont
work in 4 socket items)
Also, what exactly does ED% do? Say it had 200 defense with 15%
ED....what does this mean?
What happens if the ED is over 15%? Then does it become a blue item and
therefore unable to contain runewords?

That's why I said *very* *small* values of 4 (meaning 3).

Increase defense by 15%, then add 200 to whatever that is.

Well... if the item is white it won't get over 15%ED. If the item is
blue, who knows (or cares) what you'll get, because you can't use it for
a runeword.

Ummm... 200 defense with 15% Enhanced Defense:
(200 x 1.15 = 230 defense)
Ofcourse... your adding the runewords +Defense mods BEFORE the ED%
So if a runeword added 750 defense & 135% ED....
....you'd get ((750 + 200) x (1.15 + 1.35)) = 2137.5
*shrug* I thinx...
