Hi,

are there any special things to think of with rogue mercs?

I looked at the description and stat tables, and Ice rogue mercs hired in
NM diff don't have too many stat differences compared to the ones hired in
normal?

Thanks,

Oliver

If nothing has changed, normal diff mercs (all of them, not only rogue) get
quite a bit better in high levels than nightmare or even hell ones. So they
can use stat-restricted items earlier and perform generally better. I always
took the time to level up a normal diff merc when picking a new one.

Say if your character is already high (60 or so) and you want a merc
(normal one so to have the best), what is the fastest way to level him?

Is there anywhere that can tell me what level the monsters are so I can
do this?

Also, if I kill a monster for, say, 500XP. If my merc is with me, does
he get 250 and I get 250? Or do I get 500 and he gets 250?
Reverse, if he kills a monster for 500 XP, do I still get 500XP too?

whoever does the final kill gets lions share of the xp. if u want to
level up, leave the merc behind.

The release notes of the 1.11 patch state that mercs level much faster -
so maybe you want to download and install that 1.11 patch.

It does make a difference at higher levels ... they'll also have better
resistances. Okay, it's not earth-shaking, but every little helps. Nursing
an act1/normal merc can be tedious, but eventually pays off. Just one more
thing to do. :)

Go and kill monsters that are +-5 levels from your merc. Better yet, have
him/her kill them if you can stand the pounding, since you'll be required to
play punching bag in that case. That will give the merc full XP, if you kill
only half.

AFAIK, if the merc kills the monster, you both get the full 500 XP. If you
kill it, only you get the 500, he gets 250. And the only way to surely tell
the monster levels is Maphack. Although the level you typically have, when
you come through an area for the first time, is a good indication. Around 10
for normal Act 1, 15 for Act 2, 20 for Act 3, 25 for Act 4 and finally 30
for Act 4.

as this is just a fun build, I hired the NM rogue. At least she keeps up
nicely level-wise. Got to level 65 in about 2 days (10 hours).
