I had to format my C drive to install Windows 98SE. This wiped out the
Diablo II short cut from my desktop. Dragging one from where the game
was installed fixed that problem, only now DII creates a log file on my
desktop whenever I play the game (both SP and BNet). Is there an easy
way to get rid of it? or should I re-install DII? And will that mean
re-installing Lord of Destruction and downloading the latest patches?
Thank you for your time.

* Right-click on the shortcut.
* Click "Properties"
* If "Run in" is empty, enter the directory where your D2 installation
resides, something like "D:\games\D2lod\"

This should fix your problem.

No problem.
