Can't display more than 8 characters

I had a diablo crash. I had saved the diablo directory with the lod
and all the patches.

I can make the game work again just by extracting the files back to
c:\programfiles\diablo2

My only problem is now I can't get but 8 characters to display. My
nephew has made a lot more than 8 characters but they don't show.

You would think all you would need to do is recopy the /save folder
with all the chacaters.

How can I get more than 8 to display?

SP = more than 8. BNET = maximum of 8

if you're playing SP, then try scrolling down (there's a scrollbar at the
right edge of the character list), if you're on the realms, you can only
have 8 per account

I am only playing SP. I wanted to see what was happening so........I
deleted everything in the save folder. I then copied one character
with the 5 or so files with the same name and different extensions and
now nothing shows up.

For some reason it is not finding any of the characters now.

Did you already apply the patches? The games is at patch 1.07, out of
the box. As soon as you install the later patches, the other characters
will turn up, too.
