That may not be a complete list.

Do you happen to have a LT (Lucent Technologies) V.90 or V.92 WinModem of some kind? Because ltmdmnt.sys is definitely a LT modem driver.

In that case, you might find this link helpful, as a driver update might be the solution for the problem:

my modem is actiontec v92 pci, and it uses the lucent driver, what I did so far is changing the pci slot and reinstalling the driver from my modem CD, and see what happens, there are no upgrade drivers for it yet. The ActionTec tech support guy doesn't have a clue about this kind of bsod or problem, and he suggested that if it happens again to RMA it

If the modem is functional, then sending it back for a replacement is probably not the answer ... obtaining a stable driver is the solution. The one on the CD is most likely out-of-date, and doesn't work well within WinXP. That's not an unusual situation ... I used to run into the same thing when installing U.S. Robotics modems back in the day.

The problem here seems to be that Actiontec doesn't seen inclined to support their modems and update the drivers. The most recent version on the website is dated as being from September of 2002, and no one can tell me that after over a year, this company can't find the time to update the driver. It's obvious that an update is just not going to happen.

You aren't the only person who might have a grievance with Actiontec ... a brief search led to me to several sites where users are complaining of instability and general problems with these modems, primarily v.90 and v.92 issues, as well as connectivity problems ... and most of this is likely to be due to the older driver.

If I was in your shoes, I'd chalk up the modem as a loss, and get something brand new. But before I made a purchase, I'd investigate the company website (of whatever brand you choose), to be sure that recent WinXP drivers are available.

Actiontec probably won't refund your money for the modem, even if it is less than 12 months old. But if you bought it recently, you might consider returning it to the place where you made the purchase, and try swapping for something else.

You might consider broadband, too, if that's an option in your area.
