WIndows Messenger and SP2

I installed SP2 on my machine, (XP home edition), and now
windows messenger no longer checks my hotmail account for
new email. I can't find an option for that function.
Has the capability been removed?

Hi Steve,
Can you share the answer to your question as I'm
experiencing the same problem.
Prior to SP2 Messenger 4.7 would check the mailbox for
the logged in account.
It provided a one click to open the hotmailbox in an new
browser window with automated sign on.
Post SP2 this has all gone.
Any mail action will now open the default mail program on
your computer (Outlook Express or Outlook).
It even says so in the Help file.
This is a terrible loss of functionality.
Any assistance to restore this would be much appreciated.

Hi Oscar,

The Windows Messenger version within SP2 does not have support for Add-ins which is required
for Hotmail support within Windows Messenger. As such, in order to get this functionality
back, you'll either need to downgrade to the previous version of Windows Messenger
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp) or use MSN Messenger instead
(http://messenger.msn.com/Download).

I am having this same problem on my home pc (XP Home
Edition) and similar to others at the office where my
messenger now brings up Outlook which is not what I want
to use. What exactly is going on?

Hi
is there a way to get WM 4.7.2009 on XP SP2 to work with SIP
communications service (not MSN)?
I have tried removing WM competely, installing WM 4.7.2009,
but still no success.
WM 5 is not really an option because it is so unreliable when used with
open SIP proxies, like SER (www.iptel.org).
