Hi, I just got this game and the expansion. Should I play through
without the expansion one time, or just go ahead and install the
expansion, and then start playing?

Thank you

Definitely with expansion. If not for anything, than at least for the
800x600 resolution. I turned it back to 640x480 the other day and was
amazed how I ever played it in that resolution. Of course I also
wondered what in the world possessed Blizzard to release it like that!

In any case, Expansion is a much richer experience since it adds
numerous features, new items, etc.

Most definitely with the expansion. Acts 1-4 are the same for both
games, so you would have to do them all over again. There are tons of
new items, runes, and runewords that make the game more fun, and theres
no reason not to add these. Definitely go with the expansion.

Plus,

You will learn the gameplay and details once only. I bought D2 and
later installed LOD and had to adjust to runes, runewords and mercs. I you
do it all at once it will be easier.

The only good news about having played them seperately waas that I
could convert my characters to LOD later.

I would say definitely all at once, all it does is add ACT 5, new items,
new chars, and different gameplay options. It is not a seperate game and
plot as some expansions are.

Cheers,

Hawklan

My advice: Install it all, including the expansion, patch to the latest
version, and just start playing.

You will be missing a lot of you play without the expansion...

Have fun!

Patrick.

Thanks for all the responses, unanimous even!
I ended up starting a character before I installed the expansion,
so I will either try to export or just start over.

Thanks again for the great replies!
