Hello everyone,

I just wanted to make sure this was answered before I use DBAN. When I burn the .iso onto the disc, if I did have a rootkit/virus/etc or whatever, is it possible for the virus to burn itself onto the disc aswell?

If so, if use DBAN to completely wipe my hard drive, and then I reinstall Windows 7 after, could the virus somehow manifest and be on my new fresh installation? As the virus was on the disc with DBAN aswell?

Thanks

As long as you are running DBAN from something like a flash drive, you will be fine. Burn it to a CD and any infection won't be able to copy itself to your disk. And if you're even more paranoid about it, write DBAN to a floppy disk and move the slider so the floppy is in read-only mode.
