I'm sure everyone here is aware, but I thought I'd mention it for
anyone who didn't notice. The Countess almost always drops ruins.
So if you're a bit short on low level ruins (Ort seems to be the
best I've seen in normal) it may be worth a few runs.
I did a 1/2 hour experiment running the tower 10 times. Obviously,
it took roughly 3 minutes for each run, including time to stop a
pick up uniques, rings to be crafted into amulets, etc. The odd
time I find one of the minor bosses will drop a unique or set
item.
* during the 10 runs ruins broke down into: EL (3), ELD (3),
NEF (1), ITH(2), TIR (4), TAL(1), and RAL(3). This seems to
indicate that low ruins are somewhat balanced by higher ruins.
* no ruin was higher than RAL, but I think I've seen a better
ruin drop once or twice.
* There was one unique drop I didn't bother to pick up because
both Ox and I have more powerful weapons than was dropped.
* It took roughly 35 minutes to run the Countess' tower,
including time to stop and unload during the 7th run.
Here is the exact grab for each run:
Run 1: ITH
Run 2: TIR
Run 3: ITH TIR
Run 4: ELD ELD
Run 5: EL TIR TAL
Run 6: EL
Run 7: RAL TIR
Run 8: EL ELD
Run 9: RAL NEF
Run 10: RAL
Ox would have certainly slowed down the runs. I don't think
running the tower is nearly as beneficial with more party
members. I don't recall seeing the Countess drop more than 3
ruins, but it's possible. More party members means slower
transport, and the idea here is just to rush as fast as you can,
within reason, and gobble up ruins.
Lucinda's Dragon Flight proved useful for cutting down time a
few rounds. There was a couple of rounds I probably came closer
to 2 minutes than 3, but it averaged itself out over time.

FWIW, the Countess *lives* in ruins. She drops runes.
But it is worth doing rune runs amongst the ruins.

well, you are about 5 years late in making this discovery. Countess has a
higher probability to drop a range of runes (up to 3 from this special
drop). I believe in Hell she can drop up to IST with a reasonable chance.
For Nightmare, drop chance is like this:

2 player is about the perfect count. You reduce the no-drop chance and a
good team can possibly run her faster.

Ral is the highest rune she can drop in Normal.
Get to nightmare and do your runs there. In Normal, it's a waste of time.

Correct. The odds for an IST are 1:1109 (in a one player game). For the
next rune in the list, a GUL, we are already at 1:122049. She can drop
up to LO (1:320196). Why am I writing this? Because when in comes to
Countess rune drops, I always like to point out that the only item that
is less likely to drop than a LO is - you will never guess - a minor
mana potion (1:633005).

Ive actually had her drop a VEX in nightmare (HC), but that was back in
1.09. Couldnt believe my luck.
