Radeon 7000

I recently bought a Radeon 7000 with a short warrenty, unfortunately my system isn't happy - I'm not sure if the cards at fault or the system isn't configured properly but what basically happens is:

* The computer starts fine, everytime you restart the computer the screen goes blank - power still on - and the motherboard starts beeping - computer continues to boot, I think

* Installs windows ok and video card drivers, then crashes after quiting a game or anything that changes the resolution.

* Hard drive then not happy, wont boot up in safe mode, wont boot windows because of problems (usually missing file meassages, or even the - replace non system disk then strike any key when ready (ps - no disk in floppy))

* still has problems restarting - only solution is to turn of for 5 minutes then turn on again - boots with monitor.

System Specs:
Duron 900mhz
Radeon 7000
256mb ram
40 gig HDD
Transcend TS-AKT4 mothrboard
Win 98 SE

Any help would be greatly apprechiated

heres a thought, maybe the motherboard and video card is incompadable - ince I only bought the mother board coz it was on sale $60AU maybe I should invest in a new mo bo - probaly a GA-8SR533, none can see compadaility problems with that can thye?

I would be afaid that it is the driver. using 98se is fine for the dos features, but its day (98se that is) has past.

(the driver suite catalyst 2.2 made my msi 6163 mobo flakely, (when the hdd was working hard, XP pro would crash... long story short, it was catalyst 2.2, changed to 2.3 and everything is fine.)

SO, when I checked ati.com they don't supply 2.3 for 98se,[just use Partition magic to copy the 98se partition (in order to back the OS] then, try a clean install of 98se, then install the ati latest drivers (or the ones on the cd-rom ati supplies), if after all this, you still have problems, THEN you are out of luck, and I would suggest returning the radeon 7000.
Though, you could upgrade to XP, but depending the age of your PCI cards etc. it might not be wise to upgrade to XP.
(I am using a AIW 7500 radeon, (have a PCI radeon 7000, and (the 7000) it works in a dual monitor situation. (beause I have XP pro???)
