128MB memory vs. 64MB memory?

What are the differences between a video card with 128MB Memory and one with 64MB memory? How much of a difference does it really make?

If you are asking this because you are buying a new card then definitely get something with 128megs. Now, it doesn't make a huge difference but as more complex games emerge you will be happy you got the 128. Basically, it will ensure that you are ready for the next generation of games... and it will help somewhat in current games, especially at high res.

If is the same model video card with 64/128MB memory option, the 64MB one would have higher memory clock speed. Look at the 64/128MB GeForce4 Ti4200 you'll understand.

The 64Mb version uses slightly different memory modules than the 128 version allowing for higher clock speeds. More memory allows more (bigger) textures to be stored in memory onboard the card, newer games require lots more memory.

It depends on the card! For instance Saphire makes some 8500LE 64MB cards with 3.6ns memory at 250MHz (DDR500), while their 128MB model uses 5.5ns memory at 200MHz (DDR400).
