my pallie finished Act 1 Normal with no skills

I just had an interesting experience. I got my pallie through act 1 normal
with just 1 point in might and no other skills. I made it three quarters
through with no stat points distributed, but it started getting really hard
in the catacombs so I distributed them. The butcher dropped an ethereal
crushflange which just lasted me through to andariel, who went down quite
easily. I'm hoping I can keep going this way, and then distribute my skills
points later when I have a better idea what to do with them

cheers

the answer is to build an avenger.

An 'Avenger' Paladin uses Vengance as his primary attack with
Conviction as the primary aura. Will have trouble with crowd control
but drops the PI's & Bosses like bad habits in Hell!

It (HS) is if you want to stay alive! Holy Shield will *save* your
life! One of the very *best* Paladin skills IMHO.

cool. i read up on the avenger last night and saw what looks like an OK
build for it. I was thinking of vengeance and conviction anyway, but not so
sure about holy shield, thinking of the resist auras to boost vengeance
instead. Is holy shield really that necessay?

thx

Holy Shield is *not* an aura, rather it is a combat skill. Provides an
*insane* defense bonus for a finite period of time (defense bonus &
duration increase with skill point investment). Real basic, I map Holy
Shield as a right click skill and hot-key it to F7. Click F7, light up
Holy Shield, restore your attack aura of choice (Conviction for an
Avenger Pally ... I normally set combat skills\attacks on left click
and auras on the right click) and proceed to mix it up. You'll know HS
is active because your shield's appearance changes (looks like a
flashing cross ... heh). Trust me, Holy Shield is *GOOD* ... you'll
learn to *love* this skill!

Holy Shield as I've stated above will stay active for a finite period
of time, regardless of what particular attack (combat skill) and aura
you happen to be using.

Flashing (switching between auras quickly) no longer works ... used to
in previous patches. Now flashing in some cases *will* induce a Realm
Down (RD - "Your connection has been temporarily interruped") ... Trust
me on this, *don't* do it. ;-)

how is the aura used? is it something you switch to and from quickly, or are
there situations where you would have it on full time? I don't know much
about auras, but I have heard rumours that you can get the benefit of two or
more auras by switching between them quickly

thx
