Continuing our adventures of the CanAm Coalition in Uber-Tristram

I have to confess that the next ½ hour did not go well for the strong
willed trio. Running into to face them again - trying to find mepf
- dieing, dieing again. Yes, a few deaths. Did I mention that we died
a few times. Oh well. I thought mepf was down south at one point and
when I ran down there Baal teleported after me. I did not see mepf down
that way and I thought I left Baal down there when I Vigored around the
building to join in the battle with the others. But I could not see
mepf on the screen, only Diablo. Of course, silly me, mepf had to be
where the big crowd of skellies was. Too late - I think we died a few
times. And of course somehow Baal did not stay down south where I had
left him. These three ubers seemed to be intent on wandering all over
town.

Nik had been watching and he was very exited abou the battles.

Nik: Daddy you and your friends are fighting all the masters

Nik: Daddy go through the red portal

Nik: Daddy I can give you energy.

The only silver lining attached to our cloudy deaths was that it
actually looked like we might have separated them.

Our pots were running lower. I did get some of them in my inventory
each time I died, but I think a few got laid to rest on the ground in
the town, probably stepped on by the demons and undead. I pulled out a
few items and threw them into the chest in town - TP tome, keys, even
the poison small charms that amounted to 25 points of poison damage per
second. At least if I died now the pots would find their way into my
inventory.

We regrouped and headed back in and looked for meph. We found him -
or did he find us? Well here we were facing off with mepf and Baal
joins in. I could see the life bar of mepf going down. Diablo finally
got lost somewhere, who cares where. We were finally only having to
face two of them at one time. In a short period of time mepf was down
below 10%. I typed "y" which translates to "YES WE ARE KICKING
HIS ASS AND HE IS GOING TO DIE!!! WE GOT HIM!!! YES!!!"

Mepf died. My first new uber kill.

Boy oh boy, I was so excited I forgot to switch to the conviction aura.
But Louis reminded me while we were battling Baal. Loius and Christine
must have been reading my mind. We were already head to head with Baal
and going strong - no point in going back to town at that point.

Baal popped his double next to us. Baal was above us. His double was
below us. Soon the double disappeared and we were all pounding away on
the Baalific One.

I told Nik that we were doing it.

Baal died. Loius called us to town for a break.

Orion: I can hear Diablo shaking in fear!

Louis: I can smell Diablo's fear!

We regrouped and headed back in and looked for Diablo. I ran a little
ways south and saw his circle of flame heading up my way. I ran down
and typed "here". I was soon joined by Chris and Louis and a
hellacious battle followed. Daiblo kept calling up his Pig Lords and
they were piled sky high around me and Christine but we kept swinging
away.. Despite the Conviction they still were immune to the elemental
damage. (Mental Note - Conviction is a waste against the immunities
in Tristram)

The Pig Lords were piling in so tight that it was hard at times to keep
the dursor centered on Big D. So I held down my shift key and kept the
cursor searching at the same time to make sure I could see the
"Diablo" name showing as much as possible as my target. Diablo was
losing life fast. He looked like he was in a panic.

Then I saw it happen. He threw up his arms and some gold appeared on
the gound. The Pig Lords were still there but we took them out fast. To
be safe and in case the game crashed I grabbed the loot. We finished
off a few straggling minions.

Loius: Where's the torch?

Orion : I got them.

We headed into town and I ran to Cain. Hmph! Not even any kind of
recognition over our accomplished deed. I proudly informed them that
Christine is going to like this "BRAND NEW PALLY TORCH!!!"

They were happy. I was happy.

Chris and Louis were spectacular. I am glad they were patient with me
and placed trust in me. (Mental note - make sure the chest and
character is packed with maximum gold and purple pots - just in case
some bad luck occurs, like it did tonight)

I think that if we ran into mepf by himself when we first entered that
we would have PWNED him and the rest of the place.

I think that even though we faced off with all three at the start, at
the rate we were going, if my PC did not get over-reactive, that we
could have even handled the three of them. I think if we do it again
that we things will go a lot easier for us. And I think I have a much
better idea of what can happen and what to expect.

We exchanged some more thanks and gratitude and words of
congratulations and then it was time for me to head out and get the
kids and me to bed. My wife had goen to bed once the kids settled down
and we first headed into Tristram so she did not get to see the battle.
Despite the excitement I did fall asleep with little trouble.

I look forward to more adventures in uber-tristram.

Thank you for inviting me over there Louis and Chrictine. Hope to play
some more with you.

Let's here it folks for the CanAm Coalition!!!

Thanks for the great report.

Now, the big question. Do you STILL think fighting the Uber trio is a good
plan in hardcore.

And if so, what builds, gear, and character selection would you suggest?

Hey Orion,

I am impressed ! You are a darn good and talented story teller!!
The construction of your story (intro, hook at the end of Part 1,
presentation of the battle, etc.) is very professional ! Are you a
writer ? I am sure that your childs are often asking daddy for a
bedtime story....

I also like the kind of photographic memory you have from the battle.
It reminded me of the two other times i went there with the pally you
drove...crazy behaviour of the life bubble, zealing like mad at
anything that is close and trying to aim for UBosses instead of
minions, absolute fear of any kind of lag, etc.

And it is very humorous too! Bravo!

About the battle:

My first impression is that we had two for the price of one!
Let say that we fought for 2 and a half hours (i dont recall at what
time you opened the red portal, be we finished at 10:30). The first 2
hours were a struggle. We had our chances and we also had badlucks. All
our strategies were erased by surprising AI from the ubers (or maybe
coincidental random movements). For instance, i remember when, after
dying, i knew that Meph was alone at the north-east corner. We ran
there and found Meph, ....with Diablo and a huge crowd of PigLords (as
you name them)!!

Then, after several minutes of heroics efforts to keep our mind
positively focus, we went through the portal again and killed the THREE
Ubers without any dying on our side and very light use of full
rejuvs....in, what?,...20 minutes of fighting ? The entire battle could
have been only that! But, instead, we had the whole show !!

I think that the ONLY small error we made, was to rush like crazy on
Meph the first time we saw him. We were in a good position; our backs
protected by the river and Meph at our sight. I think that we should
have been patients and let him come ALONE face his death. That idea
crossed my mind hours after the fight...i was as eager as you at the
moment!

Another thing that crossed my mind is the possibility that my 28
skellies/mages army could have been triggering the 3 sad demons a lot
more then we wanted ! At RS slvl 45 and SM slvl 46, those little
bastards are kind of resistant and they really are looking for
troubles! Maybe they were the responsables for the constant activity of
bosses...i dont know ! (By the way, riding a necro in Tristram is
something else !!! Necros DONT HAVE LIFE LEECH!!!! I will post later
on my feelings regarding that experience).

Before concluding, i saw one of the most hilarious scene during that
epic journey: It was at a moment in the battle where we were severely
mentaly challenged ( i think that it is when Baal was teleporting after
you and you went to the south west corner). I was in the north est
area looking at my army beeing destroyed, at Christine's pally beeing
surronded by tons of PitLords while fighting Diablo and Meph, I was
casting confuse to the multiple minions that were after my ass while
drinking purples like crazy, i knew that it was a question of seconds
before i (we) hit the dust, it was absolute CHAOS !!. Then, i saw my
merc... he was traveling between PitLords and other ennemies, not
attacking anyone, not beeing attacked neither ( man, the screen was
crowded with monsters!!), i could almost ear him whisteling a bucolic
song..and he has the "I feel much stronger now" flag over his damn
stupid head!!! Few seconds after, i died, and almost peed on the carpet
laughing!!

Orion, it was great to have you there!
I am also happy that we had that kind of encounter with the ubers; you
saw the way it could go bad and the other as well.
Christine and i will be hunting keys again, and if you want to join us
in our next visit there, you will be welcome.
The torch went to the pally you drove (and improved his performances in
a significant way). Elder's rights ! He is providing bread and butter
for the family for more then a year...he earns it!

Hope to see you soon in game!

Thanks! I did submit a story to Fantasy & Science Fiction but it was
turned down. I think it should have gone through but they are probably
loaded with writers and my cover sheet with the submittal was too
humble. I should have wrote the cover letter differently, been more
agressive. I might send it back. I do have a somewhat humerous one
almost done but even when finished I am very critical of my own writing
of that type and will spend a lot of time taking out the "mairde" and
refilling with hopefully better ideas.

Ah man I forgot about the time we were on meph and Baal came close and
cold wedged me off the screen up to where Diablo was and he teled after
me and there lots of minions there too. I could not break free to get
back down to where Christine was fighting mepf.

Yeah we knew that if the start was different that we could have Pwned
that place.

We will keep this in mind. I suspect that the others might have also
rushed up to us but maybe the skellies would have held them off long
enough for us to take out mepf.

Yeah I thought about how you would not be able to leech anything. BTW
there were a few times when I could not tell you apart from the vampire
foes. But that really would not matter.

That is funny. And they walk so proudly when they do that, eh?

I will glady join again. More experience is vital at this time. I
learned so much. I look at what we went through, the gold and the Full
Rejuvs - that tells me that I am going to have to prepare that also at
this end.

> Hope to see you soon in game!

Yes! I started a SC LF/Plaguazon last night on WestUS. I have not
determined wehat kind of Tristram character I will make. I have to see
what all the other guys and gals have for use there. At any rate the
javazon can't hurt me. My SC NL javazon can run for keys in no time and
now she can even get to nilly quite fast, compared to before. I have
also better equipped some of my other chars in case specific beasts are
on Nilly level 2. When I attempt uber-tris here with Misfit and my wife
I will get a good idea of whether or not the zon can handle the
minions, or at least if my wife can handle them with her. I expect that
she will be able to. The Zon does well in just about any location in
Hell and my wife plays zons well.

Maybe I'll see you on West sometime. If botd is a weapon that will get
it done we will be crazy-ass questing for runes to cube up to Zod. The
crowd out here also has an exceptional grip on getting thigns and
getting things done.

And that level 95 pally, I did not have time to study where all his
skill points were, and I am going to need to know in case I make one
here on the new ladder.

Hope to see you soon. We will saty in touch. Thanks again!

Ruben,

I do not want to discourage anybody in the world from having the
determination to go to uber-tristram. Therefore I will optimistically
say this:

It is not impossible in Hardcore.

Bongo and I met someone that sounded like they had one hell of a build
in hardcore last ladder and they were talking about having been to
uber-tristram. Of course we were wondering if this person had to have
had some kind of bot program running at night while sleping in order to
have gotten as much of the godly gear that he had gotten. There is also
the possibility that htis person traded for the gear from what we
suspect were people that ran bot MF programs at night to gather for
trade games in the AM.

I will say this, patience will be needed, meaning that one should not
even considering rushing in there until sometime next calendar year so
that the proper gear is acquired. I would suggest that hardcore people
post their builds, skills, and gear so that the softcore people that
have been there could give them advice as to whether a jaunt has a
chance or if it is a kamikazee attempt at placing a noose around one's
neck, climbing a tall tree, tieing the other end of the rope around a
branch and then jumping downwards.

The Europe gang had a very large team of hardcore palyers so that I am
sure gave them a chance to build some good chars and acquire the gear.
The bigger the team of stable players, I expect the odds are improved.

I hear the the lesser ubers are much easir to handle and I expect that
to be true.

I will continue to build my javazon in HC. She will be good at running
keys with others and perhaps for the lesser ubers. If my wife and/or I
play my SC NL zon well in uber-tris then maybe there will be a use for
the HC zon there. If not maybe I'll build another char in hopes of
doing it in HC.

1) When you and others MF, keep all the good leech items

2) It seems the botd is a good weapon, save an eth item for it.

3) Spend a month rushing mules to hell Hellforge and cube up the runes
to Zod for the botd.

4) save good smiter equip for Bongo.

5) Follow Louis build for his pally on east US.

6) If uber -tris is attempted do it at a time when realm traffic and
connections are good.

7) keep reading the posts and take notes, write things down, make a
scrapbook.

BTW I did say that it is not impossible, which also translates into
given the wrong cricumstances it could end up a disaster.

And don't plan on looting a corpse unless the 3 ubers go down or unless
you are able to get them to chase you to another area so that someone
can get the gear off the corpse. In the words of Misfit, there is a lot
going on there - a whole lot of things in a little bit of space and
time.

Try to hook up with someone in SC and use their char, just to see what
you wil lbe up against. If I get enough good chars together on my
account I'll extend an offer for you to play one of them and head there
with me.

We'll be talking I am sure.

Bongo you got the right idea. That is just what Louis had 2 Pallies and
a Necro.

Salvation is only needed as long as mepf is alive.

The Pally I played had that Zakurum Shield, two of them. Breath of the
Dieing (Eth Axe of some tyope), which is going to be next to impossible
to get in HC Ladder. The other had Doomzerker, whatever that is.

Okay you are insane, but we already knew that and dare I belabor the
obvious?

I will help you gather keys and handle the lessers.

I have a feeling that you will be able to convince somebody to bring
another pally to run it with you.

But as darth vader would say "do not underestimate the power of the
zon"

Absolutely. I'm building up to an eventual run at it and am really looking
forward to it. Here's the best write up on the subject that I have seen:
www.theamazonbasin.com/d2/forums/index.php?showtopic=58929

> And if so, what builds, gear, and character selection would you suggest?

I'm thinking for UT:
Pally - Smite and/or Zeal loaded with CB and Fanaticism as primary Aura,
Pally - Smite and/or Zeal loaded with CB and Salvation as primary Aura,
Necro - Summoner with Curses.

Prebuff with BO and maybe Enchant via slaves. The Pallys concentrate on
killing the Ubers while the Necro's job is to control the crowds to support
the Pallys. Loads of minions and CE, DV, Confuse, and Attract should do the
job. Maybe Life Tap if the Pallys can't get it from items.

The Necro needs pretty standard gear; max resists, high plus skills and
life.
The Pallys need HoZ (or Exile Runeword)shields, Grief Runeword Phase Blades
or Berz Axes, Dracul's Grasp gloves, and CB gear like Guillome's Face helm,
Duress Runeword armor and Gore Riders or Goblin Toes for boots.

For key gathering I think we can use general questing characters. With the
exception of Nilathuk which should take some care. Probably use a DS Trapper
or Necro to dispose of the bodies with CE, and/or a Cold Zon to shatter the
bodies and leave no corpses.

For the Furnace of Pain I think it will be Bowazon city, to deal with the
everything but physically immune Balrogs and Okies (physical damage from
range). Or maybe a BF Assassin with CB would be good there too.

Call me insane, but I don't want to 'practice' with SC or nonLadder
characters. I want to read and plan for it, but just experience it live. If
I lose a few characters in the attempt, so be it. But after playing this
game for over five years I have to have a goal and something to get excited
about.

The necro would cast lifetap to get them started. I've died a number
of times because the lifetap didn't kick in.

Nilly is surrounded by cold immunes. You might have trouble getting
them to shatter.

I've been running him for the last far too many hours with my sorc,
and I'm actually gaining xp. The sorc's at level 86, and would have
started the night at around 1/4 - 1/3 of a level, and is now maybe 1/5
- 1/6 away from 87

I've had to settle for infernostrides as I don't think I have any
hotspur around. But as is, she going pretty strong with only 25%
damage reduction, 77% res all, 64 fire absorb and 15% fire absorb.
Get the hotspurs to get the char up to 90% fire res, use 2 dwarf stars
for 30% fire absorb and the Rising Sun ammy for the 60odd (depending
on your level) straight fire absorb, and his corpse explosion would
probably barely even tickle, especially if you have real high life.
My sorc's just running with 776

If I can get a lightsabre, TGV and a spare dwarf star, raven frost and
rising sun ammy, I'm totally making an absorbadin (least I think I'd
make it on a pally ).
Anyway, I got sidetracked.
But yeah, lots of damage reduction and fire absorb and nilly isn't
quite as dangerous. He'll still have his moments though, but whatever
build you decide to run him with, fire absorb and damage reduction
just in case nilly gets lucky (or B.Net decides to cheat for him)

Uhm, in the Furnace of pain, isn't everything susceptible to physical
damage? With only the Okies making a melee character a less than good
idea.

The Grief weapon is specifically for Smiting. The 350-400 added damage from
Grief is added to the base Smite which is then multipled by the skills, so
you can get huge damage from it. So after knocking down the Ubers life with
CB you have enough raw physical damage to finish them off. Now I just need
to get a Lo to make one.

The BOTD was made from an ethereal berseker axe that Christine found.
Except for the zod, all the other runes were also found by us.

The Doom zerker is a berseker axe with "Doom" runeword in. I traded it
for 3 sojs in perspective of UT use. The slvl 12 Holy Freeze, among
other interesting stats is making that runeword pretty interesting IMO.

Good call, thx for the tip.

Then I guess it'll be the Trapper. She's undoubtedly safer anyway as she can
cast her traps ahead of her and kill things off screen. And being it's HC
that means you don't need to worry about all the gear you mention to survive
a CE.

Sorry, typo. That should read:

LOL! LOL!

Forgive me for jumping in but the water looked insanely beautiful.

Bongo, looks like you got your share of key runenrs and lesser uber
killers.

Just great, eh?

Bongo, you got your pally. I am sure Misfit will put together a necro
and follow Louis's Necro_Fungus guidelines. Either that or Misfit can
put together a pally. Or mayber even SVH. Tymme is a hardy hearted
adventurer also who might like to make a *Descent into the Maelstrom*.

I think I am limiting myself to my zon in this HC ladder.

But if it comes down to you needing one more able-bodied hearty
adventurer and it looks like a zon won't cut the mustard you can give
me and a character (well the character more than me) one of those
super-duper Bongo rushes thru the rigors and I will join you and play
that character in Bongo's Super-Duper Kamikazee Kick-Ass Killers in
Hardcore Uber-Tristram.

Ruben you crack me up.

Cheers

Orion

OK, you're "INSANE"!

We knew that already? Oh! Maybe all HC players are a bit that way, but
you're off the map! "IF" I ever get any characters willing and able to
wander around hell, I might be willing to hunt keys for you, but you're on
your own from there buddy. I envy you your courage, but I don't think I'm
ready for that much of a challenge, at least not yet :)

Well, yeah, someone has to be the class clown right?! I maintain that I'm
a lot more than the dirty old man with a sick crush on his little Diablo
dolls, I'm a dirty old man who has a crush on his Diablo Heroes! OOPS, I
just realized that part of them are male, what's THAT mean? Hey, lets go
get these Paladin's and Barbarians killed! LOL
