As very well described by Orion (Saga of the CanAm Coalition in the
Uber Tristram ) we went there last sunday. Orion and my girlfriend were
playing pallys and i was playing a Skellymancer. The following are my
impressions about that experience. I hope that it could be helpful and
i also hope that some advices could be given for my next trip there.
First, i must say that i am not an expert at necros. But i am not be a
complete noob neither. The necro that went to UT was a clvl 85
patriarch that never died before. I also have one that is lvl 78 in HC.
My game plan was mainly to have a crowd control role and helping the
two pallys survive by casting LifeTap (slvl 14) and/or Decrep (14 as
well) on Uber bosses. For the crowd control portion, i used mainly
Confuse and Bone Wall.
I was supposing that my army, which is strong (SM: lvl 46, RS: lvl 45,
23 revives and Summon Resist around lvl 15), would be able to take
care of minions for a while. That was the theory.
As Orion said, we were "lucky" enough to face the 3 ubers at the same
time. I was standing a bit remote casting life tap and seeing my army
going down a bit too fast. After a short while, their minions appeared.
So i tried to slow their progress toward us with bonewalls then casting
confuse. It did not worked well! They were simply too numerous and
coming from all directions. And those vampires were throwing all sorts
of elemental damage stuff over us. OH! i forgot to mention that my army
is now gone. Orion died and Christine and i found a way to run to the
portal.
First constatations:
My army is killed very fast.
Since the two pallys are after Ubers, they are almost no corpse to
rebuild it or to create revives.
Casting LifeTap is not that utile (except at the very beggining) since
they both have Drac's gloves.
And, necros dont have life leech since they dont hit! I was starting to
be very perplex.
The fight continued. It was getting worst. We were always surronded by
tons of minions and fighting the 3 ubers simultaneously. My crowd
control game plan was innefective. Totally ! At each deaths (my necro
died 5 or 6 times) i had to retard the game to rebuild army. Which was
a real PITA.
Other constatation:
By the time you rebuild your army, the life line of the Ubers is
replenishing. Both pallys had "prevent monster heal" on their weapons.
But it is actually more of a "slow monster heal" effect.
Then, a bit disoriented, we went through the portal again. Going south,
we found Meph (with Baal behind).Pallys charged. Heading south, i had
right to my left the building walls (safe on the right). On my left, i
had the end of Tristram map wall (a bit far, but not so much place for
heavy crowd of minions). In front of me, the pallys are killing
everything thing in sight (not much minions were getting through
them...and they were providing corpses!!). So the main dangerous road
for invasion was behind me (north). I filled that road with bonewalls
and confuse everything that was moving while casting life tap (just in
case) on bosses. The battle field was scealed. Pallys managed to kill
Meph and Baal and we went back to town for ...refresh. And i still had
an army that time!!.
Diablo was overpowered.
Last constatations:
Having a blocked access for minions at proximity (river, wall) is
greatly improving the possibilities of controling crowd.
Having two (like in a corner) might even be better, but some other
problems could show up (like impossible retreat).
All the corpses are not "re-usable".... I did not yet figure how it is
working, but army is very hard to rebuild.
Pit Lords are very effective revives.
I totally forgot to try casting IronMaiden...Could that curse been
helpfull? (I am mainly thinking about Pit Lords...and maybe Diablo as
well!)
As said before, I hope that those comments will provide some usefull
infos and i will greatly appreciate any advices for my next Tristram
party!
