Playing C3C.....
Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I can't seem to find where I can change
the screen resolution.
Anyone knows?

Thanks,
Kim

Look in the PTW and/or Civ3 readme.

The readme files talks about an ini file called "civilization3.ini" where
you can specify screen resolution. But I don't have such a file?

From readme.txt:
* Ini file tweaks: The first time Civilization III is run, it will create a
file called 'civilization3.ini'. The following lines can be added and allow
you to tweak the game:

*KeepRes=1 - When set to 1, your desktop resolution will be what the game
uses. 1024x768 screens will be centered, but you will be able to see much
more of the map on one screen.
*NoSound=1 - Disables all sound in-game.
*Video Mode=1792 / Video Mode=1600 / Video Mode=1280 / Video Mode=1152 -
Force screen resolution to one of these settings.

Try conquests.ini in the Conquests subdirectory.

I know this is an old thread, but this is not working for me.

I am using C3C 1.22. My screen resolution is 1024x768 but C3C remains
at 640x480

I have added the following lines (independantly, not together):

KeepRes=1
Video Mode=1024

Neither worked. I tried changing to 1600, 1280, etc but there was no
change for any video mode setting. The program still shows up as
640x480

any other suggestions?

I am enteriing this line in the Conquests.ini file in the Conquests
folder.

Are you sure it's only 640x480? I was under the impression that
Civ3 didn't run lower than 1024x768.

That's the right place to do it.
The video mode might not work for 1024x768. AFAIK, that's the
default resolution for Civ3. I would use the "keepres=1" (caps don't
matter here) and make sure you typed it right and saved the ini file
correctly. Some programs might try to save it as conquests.ini.txt.
If you've done everything right and it still doesn't work, I can't
help any more. It works fine for me at 1600x1200.
Good luck.

I just set my desktop to 1600x??? and tested Civ3Conq. There is a
point in which it switches my desktop back to 1024x768, I think to
show the movie I deleted. Then with the Keepres=1, I get a higher
resolution than with the default setting, which, as pointed out below,
is 1024 x 768.

However, with the Video Mode= anything at all, I still get the 1024
resolution regardless of the number inserted. I tried using
"VideoMode=" and get the same results.

I like the 1280 resolution for the game, but not for my desktop or
other programs.

Any suggestions?

I Just tried both lines in my ini file: KeepRes=1 and Video Mode=1280.
The result was that the menu screen was offset from the top left
corner as if in 1280 mode but since the screen was in 1024 mode, it
did not fit on the screen. I had to use the escape key to get out and
reset it.

I am coming to the conclusion that the video mode is to set the game
to the current computer mode, not to set the actual video card mode.

This may be nothing, but how about putting the line "playintro=0" so
it skips the opening movie altogether.

Thanks,

I had deleted the intro movie, this bypasses the screen modification.
At least my desktop won't be modified every time I run the program
now.
