Does anyone know the actual differences between the GeForce FX 5800 and the 5800 Ultra? $500 is a ridiculous amount to ask for a graphics card, unless it comes with a full-time personal masseuse... Thanks in advance for the info.

I'm hoping a truck full of 'em crashes outside of my residence....otherwise I'll have to wait for a while lest I take out a mortgage for one.

Right now it is way too early to believe any numbers that come out for the GFX. And as for the prices, what the parent company (ie Nvidia, ATI, etc) says their cards are going to cost and what they actually cost are two different things. For example, right now on ATI's site, the Radeon 9700pro costs $649; but I can easily find it for $525(retail). And the 9500pro is $399 at ATI's site whereas it can be easily found for $299(retail). So, as you can see, any prices that come out should be taken with a grain of salt (especially this early)

FYI, all my prices are in Canadian dollars.

GF FX 5800 runs at 900MHz memory speed and 400MHz core speed
GF FX 5800 Ultra runs at 1000MHz memory speed and 500MHz core speed.

As of now there is no real "MX" version of the GF FX annouced... Thank god

Yep, vacs information is the most likely rumours of the two versions.

Ah, thanks for the info! I still just can't believe that it's worth $500 though. My friend got the Doom 3 alpha running very playable on a GeForce 4 Ti4400, and I'm probably going to be upgrading to a Radeon 9700 Pro. I'd be willing to bet that board will serve just fine for quite a long time to come.

Thanks again for the info.

Yeah, I´m debating over this issue myself. The GFfx is going to be about 600 euro over here, and the 9700Pro should be a excelent card long into the future. And now the rumours are starting to fly around about the R350.

It's only worth it if have the money to blow.

I built my whole computer for $700. I couldn't possible spend $500 just for the card.

If you're making $100,000 a year though, $500 isn't that big a deal....

lol, every new card that's come out from them that's been top of the line has been $500. Remember the gf 2 ultra? IMO, $500 is nothing to pay for a vad card if it'll last u agood 2 years.

IMO NVIDIA is talking about $500 so when it comes out and they announce the $400 for it every body will feel the card is for FREE!!!!!!!
if they price it $500 then it has just one meaning:
It's only for show off. they don't mean to sell it for prophit instead just to take the crown from ATI as the performance leader in the market.
this will make more sense if you consider the geforce FX cooling.
listen to me or wait for the next patch!
Edited by Hadi on 12/14/02 11:52 PM.

Oh wow, the core clock is almost as fast as my computer (700 mhz) and the memory a gigahert? I was going to say why cant computer memory progress as fast as video memory but it does. Well at least RDRAM which is now slowly fading out. FSB's soon to be released at 800 mhz. What a world. I wish I had a computer with all the best things in it and then travel back 10-15 years when actual computer graphics were in their infancy. I could sell it for a million dollars and then I'd do it all over again.
