The game seems to be running okay but my screen resolution has changed
and I don't know how to reset it as I'd like. Everything's gone large
and somewhat blurry and it's really spoiling my enjoyment.
My searches pull up lots of advice for PC users to amend the
civilization3.ini file but I can't find any advice for a Mac lad like
myself.
I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me out with this please.

Well, yes, I can set the display for everything in the Preferences but
Civ is not using the resolution set there. Everything else is fine. I'm
hoping there is a way to amend the settings only for the game. It ran
at the correct resolution prior to my installing the above patch.

That was my first port of call but I have searched my entire drive
(including "invisible" files) and that .ini file (or indeed anything
similar) is not present. It's rather frustrating.

I'm not at my Mac right now, but I can play around & see if I can find
it tonight. Yes, as you say, system screen resolution is independant of
this; when the app comes up & you get the "MacPlay" splash screen, it's
changing into another resolution.
Have you looked carefully at all of the options buttons, both at the main
start screen (with the tower) and in the game preferences? Are you
comfortable going in and looking at things from the command-line tools?

Thank you. That's good of you.

Hmm... I've certainly checked and double-checked the main prefs. Where
do I locate the "game preferences" you mention? I wasn't aware there
was another set of prefs. This might well be where I'm going wrong....

Sorry to be a nuisance. Were you able to find out how to resolve my
resolution problem? I've been digging around but still haven't managed
to find what to do.

I also haven't found it, sorry. Is there some zoom key that you've hit
by mistake, shift-z or something maybe?
Do you have that plastic laminated cheat-card that shows keystrokes and
what they do?

I don't think so. The resolution went awry from the instant I started
up after installing the patch and I hadn't pressed any keys at that
point.

I'll hunt through my boxes to see if I can find that. I haven't played
the game in such a long time and only rediscovered it on unpacking
following a move. Maybe if I rout around a bit more..., but since I've
started Civving again, the unpacking has gone belly up.
What I'm trying now is a full reinstallation from scratch. Perhaps that
will resolve the issue.

Good to know. Now, re-install the patch & see if it's repeatable maybe?

All patches (separate copies of 1.29b2 and GOTM) reinstalled and
working fine.
I must've previously checked the "Do not show again" box in the initial
Game Options screen as that's where to set the screen resolution. Duh!
I won't be doing that this time as it seems impossible to access again
if you do so.
I can't recall where I got the DYP download for the Mac from. Can you
give me a pointer please?

Good. Thanks for posting a recap, so someone else can google for it
later.

That's really strange. I wonder what file that touches; it would probably
have saved you from re-installing if we knew.

If you could tell me what DYP is, then we could both go look for it. What
does it do, and do you like it? Another FAQ entry, I bet?

DyP (Double your Pleasure) is a mod that introduces lots of new units,
techs, and buildings. It calls for a different strategy to the one I
use for regular Civ3 because of the modifications--for example 3 food
required per citizen rather than 2. I played it a couple of times on a
PC and I recall finding it fun although a bit complicated to get the
hang of. I've never played it on the Mac despite having previously
installed it. Anyway, I found it again here:
http://civ3.bernskov.com/ with instructions for Mac installation in message #18 here:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=100370
I've downloaded it again but it'll probably be a while before I get the
time to try it out.
