Hello all...was wondering if anyone else had experienced
this problem.

I'm running XP and the most current version of MSN
Messenger.

For some reason, everytime my MSN beeps, there is beep
that comes out of the back of my tower, and NOT the
speakers. I am running a no sound scheme on XP anyway,
but MSN and AIM have always sounded alright.

the ONLY thing I can think of that may have caused this is
that I installed a new USB 2.0 card and drivers the other
day as well as a external midi controller (which installed
some additional drivers).

1. These drivers may have caused this problem.
2. The beeping is a warning that I may have knocked
somthing loose inside the case, or that there is some sort
of internal error (although one short beep doesn't
indicate any errors according to BIOS codes)
3. Or three, since i have XP SP2, and it updates my
machine every morning at 3am, that this may have changed
things?

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again

Well, I think I figured it out...I had a VERY old version
of messenger (4.7 I think), and THAT icon was the only one
showing up, so I when I clicked to open messenger, the old
version is the one that loaded, and I guess the alerts did
not come through the speakers, but through the CPU as a
BIOS beep.

So, when running the most current version, there are no
problems :)

Hi,

It was probably set up to sounds that didn't exist and this would cause this issue.

Since you installed the "new one" (I assume MSN Messenger 6.2), these were added properly for
you. Glad to hear it.
